Factory ordered ‘21’ Limited Premium w/TRD Off-road on November 4. Truck finally slated for delivery early March. Found out yesterday that dealership screwed up, and truck was built with graphite interior, rather than the black that I specified. Dealership GM acknowledged that the mistake was theirs, and agreed to change their next “allocation” on a limited/TRD off-road from white, to my requested cavalry blue, with the black interior, but gave me no timeline on a delivery. The question for you folks is: Should I take the truck that is configured exactly to my specs, except for the graphite (instead of black) - or wait for an unspecified time frame on another one in Calvary Blue/Black Interior? What would you do?

How much did they offer to take off the truck with the mistake?

If they did not offer to take any money off the price, then tell them you want the specific specs or let them know you will be going to the next dealer. You will win.

Or you can let them get away with it and your money

You wanted black, the question is are you going to be happy with graphite . If you can then they should compensate you with some add on's, service, extended warranty or some type of refund.
    Good luck with your decision.

So you’re suggesting that If they are willing, because of their admitted mistake, are willing to knock off some amount to be negotiated) from the MSRP, then I should agree take the vehicle I ordered, even if the interior color is not what I ordered. MSRP was over $49,000, so what should I ask for as a price reduction to make this right?

If you can live with the color. If I personally wanted black and paid MSRP I would wait for the other truck. If you take this one I would ask for the top of the line extended warranty for free.

@Jim LE 1301 is correct first off, the question is can you live with graphite? I would prefer the black as well.

If you can live with graphite, then decide what is fair compensation for you. They want that truck sold. The longer it sits on their lot the more interest eats into their profits.

I like the idea of extended warranty but that is such a high mark up. They don't pay anything for those unless you use it. I would ask for 500-1k off but would definitely start at the higher end and maybe even try ext warranty plus 750 off

For me the biggest problem would be the exterior color, (I couldn't drive a white truck) I would more likely be able to tolerate the interior color change. That said if the dealer can guarantee the proper color delivery, I would try to get them to include some extras at no charge. Such as running boards, tail gate lock, shifter knob.....

That is a bummer and I hope things work out for you.

I'd ask for $1,000 off and an extended warranty to keep the truck. If they say no, tell them to order your truck properly or you will go elsewhere and they can pound sand.

In the current truck market, I doubt you are going to get 1k off and a 1k warranty both free, but I guess you never know until you try. One or the other might be possible.

They have agreed to change the color on their allocation for the white Limited w/TRD Off-road from Cavalry Blue, with the black interior; and letting me decide whether I want to (1) take the truck that I ordered 4 months ago, even though the interior color is not what I specified, or (2) Reject the soon to be delivered Limited/TRD and wait for identically configured truck which they changed the color on their factory allocation from white to cavalry blue. In other words, should I bite the bullet and take the right truck with the wrong color interior, or hold out and take a chance that they can get it right the second time around. Unfortunately, I’ve wasted 4 months already, and don’t want to risk not being able to get a ‘21’ w/5.7 V-8

When I was looking for my cement with black interior, I found TONS with the graphite interior. I had moments of paper hand weakness, but my wife was insistent that I shouldn't settle for less than what I wanted. I'm glad I ultimately waited an additional couple of months to find the interior I wanted.

I don't disagree with everyone above saying you should ask for $1000 off, warranty, etc. because it was the dealer's mistake. However, my question to you is: Is $1000 off a ~$50K truck really worth having the interior you don't want? I know I'd be upset in retrospect if I went with one of the many trucks that weren't EXCATLY what I wanted.

    Just my $.02, of course.

I would take a $500-$750 deduction in price and go buy some black Clazzio real leather seat covers or Katskins leather seats(if you’re feeling more ambitious).

Take your original order, we have the Limited with the gray interior and love it. Brightens up the inside and breaks up the monochromatic black, my $.02

I too ordered the '21 CB, and I went back and forth on what interior color I wanted. I ended up deciding on the graphite, and I think it was the right choice for me. Have you looked at the truck? How do you feel about it in person?

Here's my $.05 (inflation adjusted)...you're paying a whole lot of money for that truck, so you should be happy with it. If you want black interior, you're going to feel like you settled every time you get in the truck and see the graphite interior instead. If your heart is set on black and the extended wait time is something you can live with, then get the truck you want, with the specs you want.

I personally don't think that they erroneously built truck is going to sit on the lot very long, and for that reason I feel like they dealership is not going to be too motivated to give you a whole lot of incentive to make things right. Assuming you negotiated a good deal when you ordered the truck, there may not be much room for additional incentives.

Only thing about the graphite seats, is over time, getting in and out will stain the bolster on the outside of the seat, especially from jeans. It is not noticeable with the black seats. It would also be pretty costly to change it to black leather after the fact because you are into the door panel inserts, airbag cover, center console lid, etc. I would wait for the black unless the dealer is willing to eat the cost to change it from graphite to black leather.

This. I really don't care for black leather - I love the look, but not the heat effect in the interior. And that Graphite is an awfully nice looking color, but I'd be really concerned about dirt/staining over time.

If you plan to keep the truck for a long time, and have dogs/kids, or an active lifestyle that doesn't include constantly detailing your truck - I'd avoid a light colored interior.

Tell them you want to reorder a new truck. Pay that kind of money it needs to be what you want. Then tell them take off a 1k or warranty or both. The owe you! Making you wait another who knows how long for the right order. If they don't. Go elsewhere.

I would think about where you live when you are considering the black interior. We had a black Subaru Outback with a black interior here in central NC. It was always 1 million degrees inside in the summer. It looked good, but wasn't worth the discomfort. Now, it wasn't an issue when we lived in Tahoe...

Unless he left $1K on the table in his initial negotiation, I don't see the dealer doing that. Would love to be proved wrong on this one, but with short supply this year, they can sell that truck in no time. It's a numbers game. Dealer will have to decide "do I keep the customer or do I keep the truck?" In this case, keeping the truck will likely be worth more *now* to them.

Ask them to throw in an extended warranty for free. Nothing wrong at all with the graphite interior....I have it and like it. It seems like you're OK with the exterior white since you haven't complained about that......you seem to only be on the fence with the interior color.

    - Of course, if you don't think you can deal with the interior, reorder and get exactly what you want.

Your not wrong. 1k may be over zealous. But I still suggest getting the truck he wanted and at least try to get something extra even if it's just dealer add ons.....spray in bed liner etc. I can't imagine they would say take it or leave it in this specific situation.

There are so many people trying to get a Tundra that they don't care who buys it. They are on a "who's next in line and has money" scenario. I went through 3 dealers trying to get my truck. No customer service what so ever at 2 of them.

Sounds like the exterior Color is the Calvary Blue he ordered, interior is graphite vs the black he ordered. They have another white limited with black interior that they have allocated that they still have time to change to Calvary Blue.

Get what you wanted...the little bit of discount will be forgotten in time, yet the color gaffe will endure.

Said it a million times: if Toyota didn't make such great cars they wouldn't be in the US market. I've always had terrible experiences trying to get anything beyond the bare minimum with them.

Obviously your call, but the gray interior is nice. The leather on the dash, door panels, and console looks great. I’ve had black limiteds in the past and I’ve always wanted them with the gray. It definitely breaks up the interior nicely. Maybe there are some mods from Toyota that they would throw in to keep you happy....locking tailgate, rubber mats, tailgate letter inserts are a few

I have this problem as well but a good leather cleaner takes it right off, be sure to follow up with a conditioner.
