My radio is fine, but I would at least like a USB input to stick a flash drive [of music] into. Touch screen is fine, but not required. Lots of chinese brands I don't know online. Anyone have a list of reliable ones?

    Welcome to the forum Lucifer....:D

    Kenwood or Pioneer.
    I'd lean towards Kenwood..
Newer pioneers have a bit of touch screen lag in my experience.

Keep it simple if you have no plans to upgrade amps or speakers..
I ran stock door speakers in my 2005 DC with a single din Pioneer Supertuner and Fosgate amps for 10 years....

    Search Crutchfield, tons of reviews.
Even if you don't buy from them, it is a great place for research..

Look for USB input and bluetooth...
Put in your year, make, and model in the search and give it a go...

Third. They have virtually everything you need, prices are competitive, they include installation instructions, they have good phone support.

Almost every Din or Double Din radio will work in your Tundra.
This is the whole point of the DIN radio standard, they are pretty much standard.

Picking the right one is why you are reading the Forum in the first place so start/keep reading.

OP if your needs are really that modest just pick the cheapest compatible option from Crutchfield. You'll also need the Metra RR module in order to retain steering wheel controls and to gain vehicle telemetry. And that Metra RR module will also require a separate harness. Basic HU $200, Metra $150, Harness $50. Possibly also the antenna harness, another $20. And dash kit, $30-40

Once you add the HU to your shopping basket in Crutchfield it will bring up all the accessories.

That's a basic HU. If you want stuff like Android Auto, it's more. Wireless Android Auto, even more. Big Screen, even more. But for a simple upgrade you're looking at $450.

Hey be thankful the Tundra still has an old skool double DIN HU. My 2015 Honda Accord was so proprietary people had to keep the old HU and shove it inside the dash in order to run some of the telemetry functions, couldn't totally delete it. And my wife's Volvo has likely no upgrade path whatsoever.

But I get what you're saying. A cheap bluetooth speaker sounds better than most OEM audio solutions. I have a feeling there's a ton of red tape involved in getting the systems specified and built, similar to how aircraft are built. Automobiles have a long life and the manufacturers want to limit their liability. If you want to live more on the cutting edge, get a European car or a Tesla but those will all come with a separate set of problems. Then it will be "My car has a software glitch, they're charging me $200 for the upgrade! WTH!"

I just picked up a new head unit (double din). The Kenwood touchscreen in there when I bought the truck was crap and very counter intuitive. I would have some work done on the truck that required the battery out and would have to read the manual just to figure out basic radio. It was an old one so I gave it some slack. No bluetooth, no usb, no nothing...lol.

I don't want cd or dvd as it's basically a work truck 50% of the time and haven't used either in forever. Don't like clutter. The main things i wanted after researching all the features you can have was; camera capability (for backup cam), Bluetooth, Android Auto, and usb jack-preferably on face. I also really wanted a volume knob but really hard to get those nowadays on a touchscreen. Pushing the volume down button constantly on a touchscreen while driving is dangerous as well. Modern trucks can go through steering wheel for volume control.

I reflected on my interaction with my old unit and hate how I have to connect via microphone jack for pandora every time i get in the truck and a separate power cord in my lighter. No screen mirroring, bluetooth, or navigation on the touchscreen so still messing around with phone while driving. I often go to new address' in my work in carpentry so this is a big deal and unsafe. Very annoying but livable with for a while. I was very close to going with an old school head unit with basic features but you need Android auto or Apple Play for this generation of truck for the integration of your phone and apps.

In the end I spent more money then I wanted to but I ended up splurging on wireless connect to the head unit so you don't have to plug in at all though you do have that option as well. There are two usb connections in the rear of the unit that i'm trying to figure out where to send (cigarette lighter?). It also has bluetooth--all do now, Android auto, Apple play, camera cape (for three cameras), and the extra two usb connects. It also has a small physical button dedicated for volume on left bottom so better than most.

Those are just the features that I wanted so I'm sure there are more. I also purchased 3 year protection and new back up camera for license plate as mine is water damaged. Several weeks out from install...
