Lock/Unlock Beep Not Working

    Hi everyone,

I have a bit of an odd issue I'm hoping to get your thoughts on. I have a 2019 Tundra Limited CrewMax, which I've owned since brand new in mid-2019. Suddenly a few weeks ago, the truck no longer makes the Toyota beep sounds when locking or unlocking the truck. I am aware of the setting in the Entune head unit and verified it is enabled and volume set to the max. I even tried disabling it, shutting the truck off, starting it again, enabling it, and testing again -- no luck.

I did some searching online and found the lock/unlock sounds come from a buzzer module behind the driver's side headlight/wheel well area. I verified that looked OK and was plugged in fine.

I brought the truck to the dealer and they diagnosed it as a bad buzzer module AND some corrosion on the wire. They were able to clean up the wire and replaced the module. They claim the lock/unlock sound worked the first time they tested it, then stopped working again and the new buzzer module has internally failed like the old one.

Now they've diagnosed it as a bad "computer that goes to the buzzer". They're waiting for Toyota's warranty to approve that now so they can order and replace this "computer" and another buzzer module. The truck is still under the Toyota Platinum Extended Warranty, which has been problematic because at first they didn't want to cover anything due to some corrosion on the wire (which I didn't see when I checked it).

The truck has a 12volt.Solutions remote start. It's 100% plug and play and was installed in 2019...so it has been installed and working fine for almost 4 years now. I mention this because obviously the remote start has the ability to lock/unlock the truck (it unlocks and then locks it during the remote start process, which used to make the lock/unlock sounds and now does not). When the truck is running via remote start, unlocking/locking via key fob would never make the lock/unlock sounds. I also have the cell module and you can lock/unlock through 12Volt.Solutions' app, which has also never made the lock/unlock sounds. I'm concerned that the dealer is going to try to blame this issue completely on the remote start, though they have NOT done so yet.

So...I'm curious if anyone has experienced this issue? Also curious if anyone thinks the remote start could potentially be the issue here. Could it have damaged the BCM (which might be the "computer" they're referring to?)? Could it instantly be killing buzzer modules? Any thoughts?

    Thank you!

EDIT: I should mention that I have read about door lock/actuator issues causing the no lock/unlock sounds. In most of those cases, people found a door that wasn't locking/unlocking or was getting stuck half way. I cycled all mine manually and they feel fine. I checked all 4 doors after locking and unlocking and all seem to be working perfectly time...so I ruled that out.

Funny... I'm experiencing the same on my 2018 Limited CM. Sometimes loud.... Sometimes soft. And now.... so low I can barely here it. All doors lock and unlock.

Probably need to remove door panels and lube that cabling on the lock to the actuator. I had similar issue where doors would lock, would look locked and sometimes would lock all the way, other times it wouldn't, so it would lock with no beeps. sometimes you can hear the lock actuators clicking a couple of times. Issue wasn't noticeable at first, then I sat inside and noticed the passenger door was bounding back just a little bit, so I lubed that door and haven't had an issue in years. Toyota appears to have issues with the passenger side for whatever reason. My Celica, MR2 and SC400 have similar issues with the passenger door. IDK. :annoyed:

Evening, I just replaced my noise maker module on my 2019 crewmax as the original suddenly started to beep very quietly. So the new module beeps very quietly to. This cost $170 up here in Toronto. The Fobs all work fine. Doors are locking and the lights are activated.
I have reset the volume for the module and nothing changes. I think i will just live with the low volume as I am sure the dealer will charge a fortune to trace and correct the problem since I am out of warranty .

That's unsettling! I purchased the module a few weeks ago but haven't had the time to install it.

Mine does that every now and again. I think it is due to the remote start. I disconnect the battery for a few minutes then hook backup. Everything then starts working correctly again.

My doors all lock/unlock and I have the beep. My issue is that the lights don't flash most of the time, and I also don't get the long steady tone if I lock the doors and one isn't closed all the way....frustrating as hell.

I have same problem it started last week everything works but no sound. I have an appointment thursday to have it fixed under warranty :fingerscrossed:

So I brought it in and they said they took that warning buzzer thing out and tried it in another vehicle and it worked, so they put it back in and said I have to leave it with them for a couple of days because they figure there maybe a fault somewhere in the wiring and they will need to troubleshoot it. :argue::facepalm::notsure:

My 17 buzzer just went out. I bought new buzzer but doesn’t work. Seems like no power going to buzzer. Would have to back track further. Wire seems to run to fuse box but all fuses are good . Hate electrical. Give an update on what dealership states

I'm having this same issue on my 2018 SR5. Doors lock and unlock just fine, the beeper mysteriously stopped working one day. The dealership originally replaced the buzzer, when that didn't fix it they said it was the BCM and/or Junction block. They've replaced all 3 parts and it's still not beeping when locking/unlocking the vehicle. They've also been trying to blame it on being a Canadian vehicle. I bought this truck used a few months ago and it does have Toyota remote start from factory.

Curious what they find out, seems like a complicated issue for a simple 2 wire system.

no doubt keep us posted, it’s kind of frustrating because instead of listening for the beep I have to double check to make sure I locked the doors.

i've had the beep mysteriously disappear, but maybe sometime after i installed an aftermarket headunit (not sure if it was related). Fixed the issue by using the Carista app and dongle. Carista is subscription based but the first month was free; just popped in my car info and found the beep option and the beep was working again.

I have an aftermarket head unit (kenwood 996xr with the maestro steering wheel controls) and has options just like factory and it worked for 3yrs. I can also go into my settings and change beep, door locks, headlights and reset to factory settings and all settings work except the beep tone. :notsure:

Update: Dealership had the vehicle in total for roughly 2 weeks, gave me the truck back on Thursday and said they couldn't figure it out. Even after a field technician came out and attempted diagnosing as well.

Mine has been so quiet from day one that I have gotten use to just looking for the lights to flash. I can hardly hear it when there is any background noise.

Mine beeps all day long. My issue is that I lost the light flashing 95% of the time.

Replaced my battery the other day and now it will beep when you have a door open and try to lock the truck, but when you lock it with doors closed it still doesn't beep.

Fixed mine! a little back story some can relate to. I installed an aftermarket head unit (Phoenix Auto 13" Android). Immediately after installing it, the buzzer response stopped working. I ended up removing the aftermarket unit for personal preference reasons and the buzzer feedback still did NOT work... So, I got out my handy dandy TechStream software with ODBII cable, found the setting for "Wireless Buzzer Resp". It was set to "OFF". I switched it to "ON". and... voiFRIGGINla! all fixed. Buzzer works like it did before. Hope this helps y'all out! :)

I have a 2023 Tundra 1794 and have the same problem. The beep worked fine (for 8 months) when locking or unlocking and when locking, but a door wasn't shut. Now there is no sound. The lights flash ok, but no sound. Checked everything listed above. Service indicated another customer is having the same issue. Service replaced parts and control board for that customer - still no beep. I can't pinpoint the issue but did receive an over-air software update to the head unit and that seemed to be approximately when it started?? Still holding out hope they can identify and fix it while covered under warranty.

You're the only one I've seen post anywhere with a picture of the buzzer, as it seems to be called, that chirps when the lock button is pressed on a fob.

I've got significant hearing loss and can never hear it on my 2021 Rav4 or my 2016 Tundra, so I want to figure out how to make it louder.

Did it have just 2 wires run to it?

I'm hoping it only has 2 wires and I can connect a typical car horn, but hopefully you'll reply and share your experience and knowledge.

I can't believe this isn't a common upgrade by now.

My beeper quit working after I had a collision with a deer. Just got out of the body shop and the beeper doesn't work. Can someone post a picture of exactly where the beeper should be located on a 2020 Tundra Crewmax? I looked on the drivers side an couldn't find it. I'm assuming it broke off during the collision, so I'm hoping to find the plug for it.
    Thanks

I just looked from under the truck behind the fog light and noticed red and white wires taped up, I'm not sure if those are the correct wires. Can someone please confirm if those are the wires for the beeper?
    Thanks

I believe the the buzzer is behind the driver side head light maybe just below the headlight

Tint and wheels. Decked box in the bed. S and B Cold Air filters under the hood. Shiftpower throttle response controller.
Don't you have the option on gen2.5 to use the beep sound or change it to the actual horn making the noise when you lock/unlock?
