My 2024 SR5 does not appear to have a locking tailgate. I was under the impression they all had locking tailgates, but perhaps not. I've searched high and low and can't seem to determine which models have it and which don't--or perhaps they all do...or don't. On mine there is no exterior key lock and when the fob is used you don't hear the click of it locking. Can someone enlighten me?

My 2022 SR5 tailgate locks. I’m pretty sure all 3rd gen has locking tailgate. The tailgate locks with the door locks. There is no clicking sound cause the tailgate latch is an electronic actuator latch. That’s why it’s a button to open the tailgate now. If the entire vehicle is locked, the latch just doesn’t actuate to open, that’s how it locks.

Try locking the vehicle and leaving the key far away, it uses proximity sensor. If the keys are near the vehicle, it’ll unlock, allowing the tailgate to open.

Yeah, I agree with above post. There is no key lock, so to speak, but it should lock when you lock the truck. It also doesn't click outside of when it opens or latches closed. After you lock the truck, try opening the tailgate without the fob nearby. It should remain shut.

Leave the key inside the house, walk outside and see if you can unlock it. That will tell ya!

??? just wondering here - what if you lock the truck within proximity of the transmitter and then go back without keys in hand and try to open it. Will the doors unlock? Just asking because this past summer while camping I found that the doors will open even though I did not have the keys with me when pulling the handle to open the door. I was backed in within 15 feet of my camper. Something to be aware of. Give it a try and tell me if you have the same result. Good thing I had good camping neighbors.
