Hello everyone. My name is Tim Neeley. I'm from the No. Ca. Foothills, about 200 yards off Lake Tulloch, in Copperopolis. I have a 2002 Tundra I bought Brand new 22 yrs ago. Still runnin' like a top. I'm having trouble with my reverse lights and Lic.plate lights. It all started when I rewired my trailer and found that I had very faint left blinkers and brake lights on the left side. I tested the truck and found the problem was in the truck. A co-worker of my wife's came over about 9 yrs ago and wired in a trailer 4 pole harness. When he did, instead of getting a plug and play harness, he spliced into the factory wires. Then I noticed my left tail light lenz was broken and both reverse lights were burnt out. I said to myself, "Could this be the problem? Water can get, and looks as if it DID get in there. So, first I took the trailer wire harness off and started trying to put it back the way it was originally, matching wire for wire. As I unravelled electrical tape, I found all the splices were still connected pretty good, but I found a bunch of wires, about 5 different colors, all put together in a wire nut. That was all for day one, but, as I went to move the truck, the guages in the instrument panel was dead. Come to find out, it shares a fuse with the heater and the back up lights. I started to examine the left wire harness for the blinkers. I bypassed all the wires , starting at the plug and up to the lights, by putting a pigtail, and just for a moment my back up lights came on and the fuse held. So after many hours working on this, I was rejoicing. Then I started temporarily zip tying wires up till tomorrow, when I had time to properly secure them. When I tried it again, the fuse popped and I'm at square one again. I ordered two new wiring harnesses for each tail light, and a plug in trailer wire harness, but I can not find the harness that goes across the back of the truck and plugs into the tail light harnesses. You know, the main one that is attached to the main one that goes along the frame rail. The one on the frame rail, Ts off with that one that he spliced into. Or do you have to order those as one piece? That would be super expensive, I'll bet. Sorry for the long story.

Today I undid those 5 wires and separated them and solved the problem of blowing fuses, and got back up lights working. Thanks for the reply. Tim Neeley.

Good work. You have a wire pinched, or what? We've had a couple of folks on here with pinches where the bed mounts to the framerail in front of the wheel well.

No, I think the 5 wires were hooked up to a towing harness. I got the old towing harness, I noticed it had 5 wires too. So I wired it together with the 5 stray wires and got nothing on my trailer. I went wht to wht, yellow to yellow, and red to red, now I have a blue and .......I forget now. I'll try a few more things tomorrow. I'm tired. Going to bed. Good night all. Tim.

This may help on a 5 wire system. The blue wire is for the e-brake

Oh thank you. I don't see another blue wire to hook it to, in fact, none of those five goe to anything.

Once the rain lets up, I'll crawl under there and write down all the colors.

Ok, I have left over, Two red wires, one is a bit thicker and they both have small grey dashes on them. Then I have a yellow wire and a blue wire and a white wire. After putting all the wires back they way they were, matching them up, I got my back up lights working without blowing the fuse, but I have these 5 wires left over. Apparently, these wires, maybe not all of them, but, they were hooked to the trailer wire harness that was giving me all the problems. I've got a plug and play New wire harness coming tomorrow, so what do I do with these five wires? Anyone know? Thank you, Tim.
