One of my front door speakers is blown on my 05’ Limited DC. Any good recommendations for replacements that install easily, decent sound, and acceptable price point? Any help really appreciated! Happy 4th everyone!

    Happy 4th!

Probably just 6.5" speaker, looks like there is a tweeter down there too? It also looks like you have more wiggle room in there than where my speaker is. You also have the limited truck, yeah? I think you have an amplifier under/behind the back seat, not sure how that affects your install...probably a fairly easy install, regardless.

^^ check these sites out for more info. Aside from wattage and the frequency range of whatever speakers interest you, take note of their depth. Specifically, the depth on the cone side. You don't want to buy a speaker that is going to interfere with the grill and door panel when you reinstall.

Looks like you have the 8 speaker JBL set up. The front door sub and mid speakers are 2 ohm and with your 6 channel JBL amp your only getting sub and mid range frequencies to those lower front door speakers. Look at the PowerBass 6.5" 2 ohm component speakers. You can replace the tweeters in the door using the PowerBass tweeter or just use the 6.5 speaker from the component set. You wouldn't need the crossovers for the tweeters since your JBL amp would handle the tweeter high frequency signal using the factory tweeter wires.

You can sort auto speakers on Crutchfield to look at the other 2 ohm options.

If you don't want to go down a rabbithole, you may want to hunt out a good used OEM replacement. I gave mine away, maybe another DC owner would kick you one of theirs.

There's a lot of audio considerations to make on these trucks. It's outlined pretty well in the "Audio, audio upgrades and cameras..." section in the 1st reply of this post.

I dunno, Crutchfield has some pretty solid pricing due to volume. Not only that but you get free phone support and they throw in all kinds of extras for adapters and crap like that you need for easy install, and give you detailed spec sheets for your products outlining install, so even if it were a bit a bit more expensive ... it's worth it. Not to mention the fact that if anything fries or has issues, they'll totally exchange and deal with the OEM on your behalf.

But I seem to recall member '912' ended up going with Crutchfield not long ago and actually saved like 40% off what scAmazon was gonna charge. And they're having a July 4th sale right now.

I feel like Crutchfield gets a bad rap on their pricing, they provide tremendous added value, nearly all of their people are car audio geeks who are well-trained, and they do have very solid (sometimes outrageously good) pricing.

One more thumbs up for crutchfield. Just yesterday did my first head unit and backup cam install and didn't know anything. Called them and they sorted it all out for me in no time. I actually was going to replace my JBLs along with the head unit, but figured out I was just being an idiot and my old speakers were fine once I gave them a good source like a CD. I had been listening to FM and a tape deck aux adapter - so now I have a bunch of stuff to return... because I'm stupid.

Oh yeah, I've used Crutchfield for research purposes for many many years and have purchased many items from them. I still price search around though and a few times, they have been just as cheap, cheaper, or way more expensive than others. I do like they include basic harnesses or at least tell you what you're going to need when ordering radios and such.

Thanks guys. I've decided I'm going to repair the door speakers and bust out my old CD case for the time being. If I want to redo the whole stereo system, it's going to cost me at least 6 or 700, and I'd rather put that money towards other things right now. For now, this $30 repair should suffice, I hope.

that's interesting. at $139.99, i may pass. The speaker on my phone has been plenty loud for taking quick calls and hearing the maps navigation. Music streaming would be nice with this kit, but I'm kind of stoked to bust out the old cd case and jam out on those. I kind of miss listening to entire albums. Most of the time when we stream in the car, it's like a randomized genre based "station". Appreciate the link though.

I added the GTA kit and continue to be glad I did. With the steering wheel controls it's pretty much hands free. The sound from my iPhone is 100x better than the radio (I have the "premium" sound setup).

For calls I may just end up going this route...

    https://amzn.to/3sD4oMQ

Trying to keep it as simple as possible before I decide to pull everything out next year and get a whole new stereo installed.

Okay guys I think I've given in and I'm going to buy the GTA kit as long as my stereo speakers sound good after the repair that I'm going to do today. I finally got the kit in the mail. I really like the idea of keeping everything stock and just using the maps off the phone with sound coming through the Bluetooth GTA channel.

This route is overall a lot cheaper than getting all new speakers, bypassing the amp, getting in your head unit. And then I might not even be happy with that sound. Going to give this a shot first. A lot of people seem to really like the JBL premium sound from the stock speakers

I bought the GTA kit last year and it worked good...for a while. On my road trip this year, I couldn't get it to connect to my phone. I don't know if this is a GTA issue or if the problem is elsewhere. For the record, I only use it (or planned on using it) once a year on road trips. My commute to work is a whopping two miles, so no need for audio.

Like the Bluetooth wouldn't connect or the aux wasn't working? I would hit up the company.

General consensus I've read online is their customer service and support is great, and they stand behind their products.

Bluetooth won't connect from my phone. But my phone has no problem connecting to my JBL headphones or my JBL speaker. Maybe I just need to tinker with it some more.

Do you recall if you happened to update your phone and not long after is when it stopped working?

I'm wondering if there isn't some way to make the GTA kit "forget" everything (factory reset). Maybe it's storing old bluetooth connection info about your phone, and you need to both 'forget' the device on your phone, then forget it on the GTA kit, and re-pair from scratch?

Sometimes when I'm having connectivity issues I'll also reboot the phone for good measure, after 'forgetting' whatever device, and half the time that resolves the issue. "Have you tried turning it off and on?"

Yeah I would first just try pairing it as a new device on your phone Bluetooth settings. So it also comes with the aux input right? I may end up using that if it sounds better once in a while, but mostly want to use it for Bluetooth playback

I’ve had mine installed for a while; occasionally I’ll need to disconnect and reconnect but for the most part it works really well.

Do you mean you disconnect it from the back of the stereo and reconnect it?

Disconnect thru the phone / BT then reconnect. It only happens about every 20 start-ups or so, so not that often.
I haven't tried the AUX yet but have it wired..
