    Hi, everyone.

I have been driving my 2006 Toyota Tundra since 2009 and I run into a problem with my truck. The best way to explain the problem is when my truck stopped on the hill when I floored it, it slowly go up to 35 mph nearly 4,000 rpm. If I let the pedal back to 1/2 way, it shifts up the gear, and it goes much faster than 35 mph, but then I tried to floor it, it shifts down the gear and loses the power down to 35 mph to nearly 4,000 rpm. It is impossible to make my trunk run more than 4,000 rpm on the driving gear. My truck started fine, it idling fine, it can go up to 70 mph on the flat road, but not going up the deep hill, it did when down to 35 mph in 65 mph speed limit without any load on my truck. Have any idea why my 4.7 V8 motor lose its power when I floored it? Thanks.

Is it shifting right? Does it accelerate normal if you manually shift it?

    Any codes?

‘06 is out of my wheelhouse, anyone know if the vvt stuff can get stuck?

My man, asking the super-obvious questions. Code reads are free and 50% of the time highlight the problem all the time.

I figured he’d have mentioned a check engine light or dragging brakes. Trans problem is my guess.

unless the drive by wire tb or pedal is on the fritz.

It could be any number of things related to air/fuel ratio. Bad throttle position sensor, MAF not detecting correct airflow, fuel pump on its way out and not supplying enough fuel pressure. Alternately, it could be a sensor related to the transmission. A simple free code read could give a little direction, but ...

I've heard similar problems on here in the past, but I'm too lazy to search, but that's OK, I'm not the only one.

Mine acted like that coming up the hill before its fuel pump went out...

But as mentioned...its a shot in the dark.

Codes are good to read if you have one....but we shouldn't get to hung up on them as there is an amazingly long list of things you can have wrong with a vehicle, to the point where it won't even start....that don't generate a code. Most of them are just there for the emissions system and not really to help you fix things.

I don't disagree, but it takes virtually zero effort and zero parts cost but does one of two things:

If there are codes, that's a symptom that can provide direction or sometimes a direct answer.
If there are no codes, that's a symptom that can provide direction through exclusion, it rules out a lot of major things.

If there are no codes, I'm going to guess it's fuel pump. like your case. But I want to see there are no fuel mixture, misfire, throttle position, or MAF codes.

Noob here, any chance a leaky head gasket could also be a problem for these symptoms?
Still agree OP should pull codes.
