I’m assuming there is an issue with the Toyota app. I got a message in the app saying the key fob battery was low. I replaced the 2032 battery in both and I’m still getting the message for the low battery.

I had a message on my dash this morning that the battery level in the fob was low.

Grabbed the other one from the house, and message went away.

Have you tried force closing the app and/or clearing the cache?

Three times now I have an issues with my key fob, twice is the last 3 weeks. My problem is nothing works, no power to anything. No alarm, no windows, nothing happens when trying to start it. Last night I had to disconnect the battery for 5 minutes then reconnect it and then everything was fine. Batteries are fine in both fobs, not sure what is going on.

Try a different brand of battery. Duracell doesn’t work. I had to switch to energizer or Panasonic

Yup, same message in app. Replaced original battery and it went away. Month later it's back on. Replaced battery and still there. Tested month old battery that came out and still has full voltage. Everthing still works so gonna wait for truck to tell me it's low or just change it annually. Finally caught up on the list of recalls, thought the red alerts were gone but noooo, got me a key fob alert now.

    Too many, but not enough....
Voltage can be fine but not enough current on the battery. Had this issue with a garage sensor.

Update: The message went away. I called Toyota and complained and they put me in touch with the dept in charge of app. They said it’s a known issue with app and they were working to fix it. Apparently they did.

I am having an issue with the dash saying key fob battery low, replace battery - not the app.

Has anyone had that problem? The truck is only 2 years old so I don't understand how the battery died so quickly.

LOL Who knows how old the cheap POS chinese battery was that the fob came with. Did you replace it? Did it solve the problem? How long do you expect batteries to last? News flash, your oem starter battery will likely die before three years.

Uhhh FYI the battery in my key fob was made in indonesia, not China so its way more better.

But not I haven't replaced it yet. :muscleflexing:

In that case, yes, I have had that same problem. In fact, everyone with a dead/weak fob battery has had the exact same problem.

You know what solved it? No, posting on the internet won't help. Instead try installing a new battery. That seems to work in most cases where batteries need to be replaced. ;)

Posting on the internet is what we do in this forum though. Nobody with a 3rd Gen knows how to do anything without going to a dealer for warranty work so we just complain.

HOLY BALLS IM IN THE 2.5 GEN FORUM. How did I get here?!?!?

I changed the battery a few times in my key fobs and it still had the low battery warning on the app. About a month later it went away on its own. I’m guessing it was a problem with the Toyota app.

Dealership sent me a coupon for free batteries in 2 FOBs. I figured at 7 years it was time to replace. Took FOBs to parts department and dude looks at coupon and reads fine print like he has never seen one.

So I got the "key fob battery low" message on the dash. Went to page 452 of the manual for instructions on replacing the key fob battery. Looks like a simple process in the manual - similar to other key fob batteries I've replaced before. But when I remove the cover, the battery is not visible. There is no mention in the manual that one needs to remove the circuit board to replace the battery, but I'm guessing the battery is on the other side of the circuit board. Am I missing something?

LOL Did you end up flipping it over, discovering the battery?

No, I have not removed the circuit board. It appears there are 4 very small plastic clips holding the circuit board in place. With my luck, I'd snap off at least one or two of them, and f--- up the key fob. Since the manual makes no mention of removing the circuit board, I am holding off for the moment. Will let someone at the dealer show me the process if no one here has dealt with this yet. 2nd key fob is working just fine in the meantime.

Fear not, you can remove the board without affecting the clips. It is meant to be done. 2032 is the battery type IIRC. And I would swap out both batteries at the same time.

Yes, that is easy. Made the mistake initially of thinking I had to pop the board out of the small black clips to access the back side of the circuit board. Thanks!
