So, I replaced my LBJs with Toyota brand one. The Toyota brand did not come with the dust boots. Honestly I'd forgotten about them. I live in the northeast winter crud is coming. Seems to me the boots would just hold the crud against the ball joint. Any opinions on this?

No they don’t. You have to buy the dust boots separately. For my year 2002 and possibly earlier, they only make one side (two different part numbers but the part is identical). I’m not sure if they fixed that problem yet or not so beware.

Usually if I find the new part lacks something that’s on the old part, I transfer it over.

I think you're right. They don't look too critical honestly. I don't think I have them anymore. Only thing I can guess, they might be rock chip protectors for the ball joints stud threads, only guessing.

The passenger side LBJ is the one that failed. I had a garage replace that one because it had the be towed. When I replaced both LBJs a couple weeks ago the pass side didn't have the boot. So the garage must have left it off. The drivers did have a boot. I'm pretty sure the moog or TRW LBJ i installed came with boots. The also came with bolts. The Toyota brand did not so I used the old bolts. When I ordered brake lines I ordered new bolts and dust boots for the LBJs. I have to install them.

I can nab the OEM part number on the boots and screws if it helps.

Thanks, I ordered the boots and bolts when I ordered the brake lines so no need to look up the part numbers.

Once again, thanks for posting the web page to look up parts. That saved a lot of time

Just looking over the zlBJ. Are there extra bolt hols in the LBJ to hold the dust covers? I can't tell with the tire on.

If you have the small ball style then they are held on with the longer bolts through the same holes that hold the joint on. If you have the big ball style then it uses separate bolts. 2003 is the in-between year.

None yet. Just good ole maintenance
Hey if you guys have it, I wouldn’t mind getting that dust cover part number. The OEM site diagrams don’t get that level of detail. I tore mine off before I realized they didn’t come with the new LBJs.

    thank you!
