So..driving home suddenly maintenance required shows on the dashboard. Get home and call dealer to schedule service appt. Next day start truck and the message is still there, no dashboard controls, truck is shifting with a noticeable pause. App is showing maintenance required. Any ideas what I am in for? Already need to have the drivers exterior trim replaced, oil change at 12k.

Keep track of your own maintenance.

Turn off the maintenance required light as follows:

    Put Tripometer on Trip A
    Turn engine off
Push the tripometer reset button and hold
Turn the engine on to the accessory position. DO NOT let go of holding down the Tripometer reset.
Watch as the screen tells you "resetting maintenance"

After that it will be turned off.

Again. Keep track of your own maintenance activities. The idiot light "maintenance required" is just that.

The maintenance required light is telling you that your oil change is coming due.

That procedure depends on the model year. My 2020 has a reset maintenance in the dash display menu.

It's not telling you that something is wrong, like a check engine light. "Maintenance required" pops up on my dash every 5k miles. As others have said, it's an oil change reminder.

I think your noticing the truck shifting late is maybe just because you saw this light on the dash and are looking for the cause.

It's your truck but I would never run a new engine 12,000 before I dropped the oil and filter

Dude, this will be my 3rd fluid change. Guess it makes Sense, got 1 at 2k and 7k. Just seems silly the truck wouldn’t tell you what maintenance is needed.

The truck will never tell you what’s needed. It will only say Maintenance required every so often. On my Toyota’s, I believe the dealership has it set at 5k intervals.

Ever heard of an owners manual? Depending on year and mileage your trucks Maintenance light will come on every 5000 miles. It’s just for the oil change interval.
Consult your owners manual for other regular recommend service intervals.

Depending on your year, Toyota has a 10K mile OCI for oil changes. I get a Maintenance reminder light for those. I also get them every 5K for tire rotation.

Also, what @Kernal said. Look at the owners manual. Plethora of information.

Whatever this forum told me to do
I thought every God fearin' man kept a maintenance notebook, in the garage, for all of his cars?

I also use the "maintenance" section in the tundra console to remind me to do sh1t.

I have not heard of that. There’s a big book with lots of pages in my glove box thingy but I can’t read so good and there’s no pictures. Any other advice Chief?

The maintenance required light starts coming on at 4500 miles then goes away and stays on at 5000 miles. It is triggered strictly by miles.

He's just giving you the correct answering. The Toyota suggested maintenance intervals is in the manual and that light just comes on every 5k and can be reset easily on your own.

    Too many, but not enough....
I write it down in the back of the maintenance book that came with the owners manual in the glove box that has the mileage intervals of what needs to be done/checked. Gotta make sure you check off that floor mat inspection!

Same. I kind of have to at this point. My garage looks like a toyota service parts department. I bought fluids, filters, wipers, all sorts of maintenance stuff on sale that should last me till 100k miles.
