My truck came with the standard side mirrors without turn signals. I recently installed new mirror assemblies with turn signals and color matched mirror caps. However, the turn signals aren’t working but the mirrors do have power.
I’ve read a couple posts where people said all tundras are prewired for those turn signals. Does anyone have any idea why mine aren’t working? I’ve browsed the wiring diagrams and those are a bit confusing, so not sure where to go from here.
I could tap into the front turn signal wire (if I can find it) and run a wire to the mirrors, but hoping to avoid that.
    Any help is appreciated.

Would you be able to send over a picture of the wiring on your truck side mirror connector? If you have access to the door jamb connector pictures of that would be a huge help as well

    @22tundramirrorguy

I also ran into this issue on my 2024 SR5 Sport 4x4 this weekend. I have been trying to find a pinout and a wiring diagram that I can decipher.

The Ultimate Wiring Diagram, Im pretty sure that I found the info on page/section 71, but I don't have the training or decoder ring to figure out WTF is going on there..

I did see one video, where they were installing tow mirrors, on that the particular truck they were working on had a second harness. That harness was located behind the door panel. I'm guessing most of those wires had to do with folding and extending.

Considering that the color matched mirrors come in motorized and manual, for folding and my new mirrors only have one harness, I wouldn't expect the blinkers to be powered by the second harness that I don't have.

So here's a pick of the left side harness. I was hoping to find the wires running to the tail light blinkers on each side of the cab to tap into. Even if they were both on the same side, I could run some extra cable under the floor mats, versus going thru the firewall and taping in near the headlights.

Anyone have any insight into this? I've spent a few hours scouring the web over the last few days. Somehow, no one has completed this. It should be fairly easy. Tap in and add pinned wires to the male mirror Molex or get lucky and repin to a different slot on the Molex. Similar to what the tow mirror guys have done.

    Thanks for the help fellas!

At lunch today, I called the dealership that I got my truck from and talked to the service manager. He told me that they hadn't done one of these swaps yet and his only advice was to bring it to a reputable stereo shop in the area. Which I'm not opposed to, for liability reasons, but at a likely $120 an hour, I'm gonna save them some time...

His assumption was the same as mine, the wires in the cab are going to the tail lights and i just need to know which ones they are. He said their schematics didn't have color coding to them. Which I find odd, but sure...

I had 15 minutes to tinker with this later, so I pulled the tail lights and took photos of the wiring on each. The left side has 3 wires, all white with different colored stripes.

The right side has 5 wires. 3 are striped and 2 are solid. 2 of the striped ones, on the right side, match the ones on the left side. My suspicion is that those are tail/brake lights. I'm thinking that the remaining striped wire on each side is the blinker.

I'll report back when I find time to mess with it again. If anyone else feels like picking up where I've stopped, have at it.

So after the baseball game, that I was watching, I didn't have time to watch an episode of anything before bed. So I decided to tinker a little more.

Looking at the harness, I had five pins, which I expected to be each position for the mirror and the ground. Outside of OEM wiring, in the 12 volt world, black or a black stripe typically means ground, but considering the pink wire was a heavier gauge, than the other 4 wires, I expected it to be the common ground for all mirror functions. Annnd it did ohm out whenever I tested it. However, so did the black wire...

    So my results were:
    Green moves mirror right
    Light blue moves mirror down
    Gray moves mirror up

Pink and black went to ground… curious.

Looking inside the mirror's female molex plug, there is a set of pins that are not currently being utilized. I'd expect those to be the ground and positive for the blinker. However, the BSM has to get power from somewhere. Maybe one of them is the positive pin for BSM, the other is positive for the blinker, and my theory on the thicker gauge, pink, wire is correct.

Sadly, that doesn't explain why the black wire tested as a ground. I expected it to be "Moves mirror left..." I'll retest some other time.

I was able to tinker with this again today for a few minutes. With the help of another member, I was able to compare harnesses.

I tested pin number 15 as the positive lead to the blinker with a 12 volt battery, out of my son's electric 4wheeler. The blinker did light up when using pin 15 and grounding pin 6.

I ordered a multipack of connectors a few weeks ago, off of Amazon. They were all to large. After striking out at one of the locally owned parts stores today, I called the dealership.

They put some effort into it and determined that the correct part number is 82998-24290. The damn things are $30 each, locally, and online they are ~$17 before shipping at Sparks.

I haven't been able to find the connectors online, from other places, such as electronic supply stores. I'll keep researching options.

Here's what is supposed to work:

I dont think your truck is wired for them. My mirrors also have heater/defrost power, collision sensor lamp, 360 Panorama camera power and output on top of mirror control wiring.

Correct, my SR5 did not come pre-wired for the blinker and other options. Reseaching the part numbers, there seems to be 3 types of the regular (Not Tow) side mirrors. The black, basic one. The one with the blinker, BSM, and manually folds. The third one is the one you have. It ads the camera, motor for folding, and such.

There are a number of people that have swapped out the basic mirrors for the more modest of the 2 color-matched mirror options and tried to get the blinker to work, but have been unsuccessful.

I have a lot of experience with car audio and marine wiring, so I thought I'd give it a try and post my results as I go. Until completion.

My new mirror's harnesses have 2 pins that weren't prewired on the truck's harness. My plan was identify which of those pins were for the blinker and add a connector pin to the slot that did not come with one. Plan A is to tap into the blinker wires in the cab, where a long run or corrosion won't be an issue.

I don't have much time to dedicate to this, so I figured posting as I go would be a good way to share the info and if someone picked this up and used it to finish up the project, on their truck, that would be alright with me. I've learned a lot from this community and am glad to share.

Thanks for adding the link. I have reviewed it. The info needed is in Section 71, beginning on page 221.
I did finally understand how to read it, but came across someone that tipped me off that Pin 15 was the blinker before I got a chance to decoder the wire color.

Just fyi, I used this guy for crimped plug wires when I did the OEM light bar switch and they worked perfectly and you can specify the colors you want in the notes.

    @CrispyNuggets

I just got started on this somewhat recently and am still in the process of working on it.

My dealership was supposed to have the pins listed above, in yesterday. I'm sure they came in, but I won't be able to pick them up until Wednesday. Then there's no telling when I'll find an hour or so to start pulling door and kick panels. I don't have much spare time when I'm home.

I'm going to order one of those pins from the guy @Goobax recommend too. So I can compare them and give folks an alternative option that can be delivered to their door.

As far as how long would it take to do. If I had all the parts and knew where I was tapping into, I wouldn't expect it to take longer than 20-30 minutes per door. Depending on how OCD you are with your wire routing and zip ties.

In this post, the OP details how he ran the wires through the door and boot. I'm hoping that either the wires to the tail lights are there and I can just tap into them there. Even better would be, if one of those unoccupied pin slots were for the mirror blinkers.

So quick update, while my kid is still napping. I had been stuck on getting the new pins added to the harnesses. There is a plethora of videos on how to pin and depin out there, but I had a hard time finding the right video.

This is how you do it https://youtu.be/92Xb_A7FQiU?si=n2-DkycZVWBv6_ZA

It took less than 20 seconds for me to do the second one.

    20241013_110058.jpg
    20241013_113845.jpg

So I did get a pair of pins from the dealership and compare them to the ones that I ordered off eBay, from the guy @Goobax suggested. They do match up and are a quarter of the price.

    20241013_110646.jpg Screenshot_20241013_111621_eBay.jpg 20241003_194148.jpg

Next chance I get, I'll pull the kick panels and see if I can find the empty sockets (Worth a try) for these or just locate the wires running to the tail light blinkers.

As advertised, by @99ways2die, the time consuming part of this is releasing the Molex connectors from the body and reinstalling the boot correctly.

I spent an hour fighting the boot and didn't get it properly reinstalled. I just could not get the Molex back into the boot, without some part of the damn thing snapping back into the frame. Then I'd have to fight to get the damn thing released again...

I have a buddy that runs a local chain of body shops. I've just decided to pay them to reinstall them tomorrow and put the liability on them if there is a leak later.

With that decided, I went ahead and did the passenger side with the time I had left. I left the wires that I ran into the cab loose. I'm not sure if they'll need to remove the doors to get the boots right, so the new wire could cause a problem if both ends were zip tied.

    20241020_144454.jpg

I like to use "Weedeater" string for most projects, when I need to fish wires thru things. It worked well for this project too.

    20241020_142657.jpg
    20241023_164902.jpg

This void is where your wires will come into the cab. It is completely empty in there, on my truck anyway. I didn't want the wire rubbing on the metal edge, so I drilled a small hole for my wire, in the side of the white plastic, to keep it away.

    20241023_121835.jpg

I found removing the door speaker made it easy to route the new wire and keep it away from the window track. That tool to de-pin connectors came in handy for poking a small hole in that rubber grommet. Feel around real good back there, before doing it tho. There's something hard, made of plastic, obstructing the back of most of it. From there, the rest of the door is gravy.

    20241023_125356.jpg

I'll try and chase down the wires to tap into tomorrow, if there's time after the body shop.

I found the left blinker, in the kick panels today. The left wire is lavender with a beige stripe. This one was easy to locate and test.
    20241109_124642.jpg 20241109_125449.jpg

The right side gave me some trouble. I expected to find, what The Ultimate Wiring Diagram lists as the lavender with sky blue wire, in the same slot on the other side. I looked around, but didn't find it before I ran out of time.

20241109_131928.jpg I did see what I thought was it, but it looks like it's white with a black stripe, using my camera.
20241109_132233.jpgI'll look around more next time I get a chance.
