I recently bought an All American Sharpener, Model 5005, to maintain my mower blades on 2 lawn tractors and a walk-behind trim mower. I was a little skeptical when I purchased it but figured that I could return it if I wasn't happy with it. I used it for the first time yesterday and all I can say is that it does a fantastic job! Let me say that I have no affiliation with All American Sharpener and have no interests in the company or its operations. I only know what works and this guide works so much better than trying to free-hand sharpen a blade on a bench grinder or a hand file marathon. I plan to resurrect several old blades that I've accumulated previously. The sharpener is not cheap ($220.00 direct from the manufacturer and $284.00 from Amazon which is ridiculous) but it is made from very high quality materials. The sharpener is made in the good 'ole U.S.A., although there are cheap Chinese knock-offs available from Amazon using the same design. Again, I have no interests in the company other than to pass along a great product to the good folks here. Hopefully this recommendation doesn't violate any forum rules but, if it does, I'm sure the moderators will handle appropriately.

It's a neat system but for $220 USD, I'll keep free hand sharpening with my angle grinder. I seem to get it close enough. LOL

Haven't sharpened the blade on my mower in 5 years. Still seems to work fine. :anonymous:

"I'm going go sharpen the blade on the mower" is dad talk for "I'm gonna go putter in the garage and listen to podcasts while drinking whiskey".

What's it called when us dads actually say "I'm gonna go putter in the garage and listen to podcasts while drinking whiskey"?

You should try it! Amazing results after fighting to remove the blades, sharpening em up and another 1/2 hour rolling around on the floor getting them back on, it is phenomenal!
For about the next couple minutes, they cut like scissors. Then it’s over…

My bench grinder with the rest set where I want it has severed me well for decades. And by decades, I mean the half dozen times I’ve sharpened a blade over the last few decades.

That's some smart shopping right there. I always walk in there and buy 3 times what I came in for so I can relate. My little kids call HF papa's toy store.

    Anyone balance their blades?

Yep I hit mine a couple times with the Dremel then take them to work in the winter and put a new edge and balance them
