Howdy. Narrowed my search results to the Bak revolver X4 or the Bak Bakflip MX4. Anyone have experience with either, pros/ cons? I live in the devils crotch Florida so freezing isn't an issue.

Consider undercover flex as well. Mine was watertight for the first 3 years

Bakflip if I was to choose between those two. I went with the Lowmax myself, I like it. If I was to do it again though I would get a retractable like the Gator Recoil.

I have MX4. Mine leaked right in the center. They replaced under warranty. The new one doesn’t leak so far but the track is loose where the release cable is covered and the cable falls out. They sent me parts but I have not installed yet. For $1000 I would have hoped to have no trouble. And I am not convinced this one won’t leak too.

I had the Revolver x2 dealer installed on my new 2021 Tundra in December 2020. It looked great, but a few months later I had to file a warranty claim with Bak after getting the felt strips wet on the under side while I was cleaning out the bed from hauling some mulch. After being wet the felt completely detached from the tonneau cover. This is a well documented complaint online with these covers. Bak did send me a new x4 as a replacement at no cost.

While they did resolve the poor design of the felt with new mechanically attached plastic strips on the underside, they created an entirely new issue. Previously the rubber strips on each side of the bed on the top of the cover ran the full length from the cab to the tailgate. This provided a nearly water tight seal, even in driving rain.

But the new x4 has these (pictured) flimsy plastic corner caps that overlap the tailgate on each side. And what happens now during a rain event? The water being pushed off the back of the truck as you're driving pours under these plastic caps that are sitting on top of the rubber strips (see blue arrows in pic where water enters). I mean they literally channel the water into the bed of the truck.

I really don't understand how things like this escape a prototype phase in a testing facility. I mean this top was nearly $1,000 and the first had to be replaced under warranty because of a flawed design. And the now redesigned version channels rain water into the bed of the truck.

I have the Bakflip MX4, works really well for what I need. It’s not leakproof, but I also live in the desert so rain isn’t typically an issue. Obviously you get no visibility out the back window when it’s fully open, but the Revolver doesn’t seem to provide much more when it’s rolled up to the cab...:notsure:

If you want something that’s fully leakproof, get yourself a Diamondback or bed cap.

I appreciate the feedback since I'm in the market too.

This feedback has me leaning away from the Revolver...

I had the revolver x2 for 4 years. It is not 100% watertight. It leaked from the tailgate and in the sides but it was very minimal. I use truck bed alot so the the vinyl material will eventually tear with rolling the of cover. The felt material on the underside came off during the summer when the glue would melt off.

No matter how many times I glued it back on or what type of adhesive I used it would still come off. Eventually the vinyl started to peel off in the corners exposing the aluminum. Only good thing is that when I called CS they offered a one time free replacement no fees whatsoever or 50% off a new cover. I decided to get the free replacement. I'll wait until the new cover falls apart and get a different brand.

Well I bit the bullet on the X4. Will be here in 2 weeks and I will post a review. Bought it from Auto Anything for $1050 all in, free delivery. Ever cover I looked at had good and bad reviews from people so I guess it’s just a crap shoot. I will say I had the Gator tri-fold hard top on my Silverado and it leaked everywhere.

I've had the MX-4 on my last two Tundy's and no problems with excessive leaking. I will usually get a handful of water near the tailgate in the truck bed if the rain is strong and coming down side ways. We experienced Snovid and two hails storms with no leak issues this year. The current MX-4 took a good beating from the hail, but still operating like a champ.

Lots of videos on youtube of the adhesive failing. Take a look on the revolver
