anyone want to sell their left front door latch? I have a 01 but I think up through 04 will work. I don’t really need the little motor on it if that’s an issue. I just need the whole metal contraption which has a couple of cables coming off of it.

Why not just buy the part from Toyota?

The latch has different model numbers depending on a few different factors, so it's not like you can just get a latch from someone driving an '04 double cab and swap it in. Or another '01 with non-power locks. Different parts totally.

    www.car-part.com is your best bet.

Given how hens-teeth the latches are, I doubt anyone around here is giving theirs up. There are a couple of parts trucks in the Marketplace forums, which is where 'want to buy' posts are supposed to be, but you don't meet the post-count + time threshold to go there yet.

If McGeorge Toyota's online storefront doesn't have them cheap enough ... dunno what to say. Except we had one guy on here recently that bought a generic one, and ended up paying $700-something dollars to have a body shop jimmy open his un-openable door after he installed the non-OEM part, then install a used compatible latch from a junkyard in its place. The aftermarket latch didn't work correctly and couldn't be forced/coerced open for anything. We spent weeks trying to help him out.

My first one went 22 years. I just replaced it with a OEM Toyota latch, I figured I won't have to mess with it ever again. Any used latches will be well used by now and may need to be replaced in a short time again. My old Haynes manuals refer to this as "false economy", I tend to agree.

Need to buy it now also, with how many parts we've all found already discontinued since 2018-2019 when the first ones started getting marked off the list, who knows how much longer you can actually get an OEM latch ...

Using the referenced site, I see the LH door latch assembly is part 69320...I see another part number for the LH actuator assembly, 69120A. I am not sure, looking at the diagram itself, whether the actuator is included as a component of 69320. If not, I am not clear if I need it. The symptom is, when pulling the exterior door latch to open the LH door, the latch only releases when I pull it hard. It's interesting, the door opens much easier in the winter than in the summer.

If you open the door so it's not fighting the door lock striker, does it have better results ?

When you pull up on handle, the yellow noted rod below is pulling up on door actuator that releases from striker.
You're door actuator itself might be wore out or the various components need lubricating.

I think Bubba's onto something with this, @theleeb

This is something @BluegrapeVr6 and a few others have gone thru recently, where door latch/lever function isn't working b/c at ~20yrs old, that old ass grease all up in the door is gummy, on its way to becoming hard as rosin rock.

There's a thread on here with a couple of RCLB dudes who found the same, and on our advice, cleaned out the latch really well with paint-safe solvent, then re-lubricated it, and like magic it all started working.

The danger here is high: You are now using more force/pressure on the handle to open the door. If you don't resolve this sooner than later, the latch is going to give, then to be blunt, you're really fucked.

It's no different from your tailgate. Everyone needs to be doing routine maintenance/cleaning of the tailgate handle/latch mechanisms. When you don't, once they start getting gummy, bye-bye factory handle...
