Need help deciding on leaf springs

    I need to replace my leaf springs ASAP. I have a 2015 pro with stock suspension besides CB shims and +3 shackles. I initially wanted Deaver a U748 but after reading a 10 page thread people seem to like the icon RXT leafs. I have a RTT, bed rack, 10gallon roadshower and 10 gallons of extra gas on 35x12r18 with full size spare. When we go camping we have 2 coolers and recovery gear. So we are weighed down a good amount. Also gonna get some hydraulic bumpstops to help. Will the RXTs work with stock pro shocks and CB +3 shackles? Need to order ASAP cause I want to get the truck back on the road to go wheeling and camping. Thanks in advance.

    While I’m no expert on leaf springs, it’s difficult to ignore the please help title.
    Any mismatch of shocks whether leaf or coil will have limited function in up or down travel. The range of compression or extension would be limited to the shock bottoming out or being extended fully if off the ground. So Yes, but your extension will be restricted to your mismatched smaller shock.
    Finding your exact setup and “mismatch” if you will, might prove difficult this late at night, given both of us that responded are on the west coast.

    I don't have either but my understanding is the Icon pack comes with different leafs that you change out for the amount of weight you are carrying. So I don't think you can use the shackles with them. And your stock shocks most likely do not have enough travel for them either.

    Thanks. I know it’s late. I appreciate the info. I’m just wondering what other people with the CB+3 shackles do when their leafs flatten out. Literally just installed them last weekend. Didn’t really notice it till the dealership pointed it out while trying to get an alignment. So no alignment and took it home. I guess I can always replace them with the stock leaf again but wonder how long those will last.

    The OP @alpinepro4 used Alcan springs and seems satisfied with his purchase. He's not running CB +3 shackles, but similar circumstances in that he was getting sag with his payload. I'll be towing soon (actually headed to TN today to do check out the Oliver factory before putting down our deposit) and will likely do a similar setup. Learned quite a lot on that thread above.

    Whew lots going on here...

    Ok step one, Stock pro shocks will not work with +3 and aftermarket leafs, the shock will limit travel and you very likely will break them. You need extended travel shocks to start. ADS, King or Fox.

    In regards to weight support with what you have listed, Icon and Deaver U748's both will meet your needs. Im not sure how fast you drive, but both of them will support the weight you are describing if you are doing normal offloading and nothing crazy like my group.. then again we all have RTT, 2 spares 35" or larger, 10+ gal water, 10+ gal gas, ARB type fridge, plus gear, tools and recovery equip. and we have guys running the

    Once you introduce speed that changes the lifespan due to weight and lots of cycling of the leafs. from our groups experience they dont hold up great to speed and heavy loads. Less than 500lb bed weight and you should be fine. (they are spec'd for 700, but id avoid that)

    As far as the Icon pack they are relatively new so hard to say how they will hold up long term use with weight. SO thats a crap shoot at this point. i can vouch for deavers being awesome ride quality and build. But icon also makes great stuff. I think its a cost thing and personal choice and you have supporting mods you need to address. Btw cost on Icon leafs are about 800$ and Deavers are not too much more.

    with the TC kit you still need to purchase your bumps

    With camburg its $775 with fox 2.0 Bumps
    with TC the king bumps are about 200$ per so you are about $850+ (call Down south motorsports for a great deal, ask for Micha and tell him Bruce sent you )
    and the Icon kit is $787 retail from icon

    now they are all similar and preferably id stick with what ever kit has the matching bump available to the shock company you are going to put in the rear. But cost is also a issue.

    I run kings. But I know guys with Icon bumps and fox bumps.. they are all pretty much the same. Id say brand preference at that point.

    Thanks Bruce. That’s some great info. I drive slow and steady while wheeling for the most part. The wife freaks out when I try to drive fast on the dirt. So not worried about a high speed setup even though that would be awesome. Was hoping to keep stock pro shocks for now till I can afford Kings. Ahhh. I have a feeling this is going to get expensive. Well I’m off to work. Got a lot to think about. Really don’t want to replace shocks right now. But it doesn’t sound like that’s going to happen.

    ill be honest, you can run the aftermarket leafs with trd pro shocks, i just wouldnt recommend it for too long. you should be fine

    but yes it does get pricey

    What if I just replaced it for something similar to stock leafs? I know they won’t last forever but I got 60,000 miles out of the stock leaf with my setup and driving habits. Once I save enough then I’ll go balls to walls and get my Kings and all the other parts I need all at once. For now just trying to get it back on the road. If I could do something similar to stock that will work with my stock pro shocks and CB+3 shackles that would be great for now. Damn hobbies. Pay to play right.

    I’d do that if funds are tight... I’d sell ya my stock leafs but I think you are far away and shipping them sucks

    No, but that’s a good idea for after I replace the springs. Looking for an upgrade to the stock leaf springs to support more weight at all times that will work with the CB +3 shackles. My springs are shot and need to be replaced. Want to keep the stock Pro shocks until they go out. So for now I’m just going to put stock leafs in and see how long they last till I decide to spend the big bucks and replace everything.

    The super bump and Timbren combination could be a good supplement even when you replace the springs to stock I personally think this will reduce the possibility of the springs wrapping the wrong direction.

    I do not always haul a lot of weight but I do run the Icon add a leaf pack. I like it. Seem to ride just fine unloaded and of coarse works well with some weight in the bed. Might be a option until you are ready to swap out shocks too.

    Look into some Alcan springs. I had the same problem you are having. Alcan made me a 8 leaf pack with no overload spring. My springs are built at stock height. I also had them built 500 lbs over capacity. I have a topper on the truck all the time. You want OEM bushings installed as well, that will bring the price up but well worth the extra money. Believe they are RB90 bushings. Alcan springs have been great ride nice and can handle a load off road no problem. No issues with sagging. They do feel stiff for the 1st hundred or so miles but break in nicely. Alcan springs are great folks to worth with they will build you whatever you need. They know there shit! Give them a consideration.
