My last visit for a oil change/tire rotation I was told my lug nuts have swollen and need replaced, they're swollen so much my lug wrench will no longer fit! Anyway I need to replace them for my TRD Off-Road 18" wheels and Toyota prices are cha-ching. I'll be honest and say I know nothing about what is the right lug to get but it's pretty obvious I want the correct one and any help is appreciated.

How did your nuts get swollen? Kicked? Seriously though are they corroding from the inside out? Or is the chrome finish separating from the metal. Weird.

He said it's pretty common and I did a quick google and yes it is, water gets under the chrome cover and it starts it corrosion which leads to the swelling.

Lug nuts gone bad on a truck that's 3 years old, I would think Toyota would make that right.

The OEM lugs I have for the TRD wheels look to be solid like stainless steel rather than jacketed. They are 2017 wheels and nuts though, don't know if that matters any. And they are flanged not conical seated for those rims.

Not fun if they swell. If you get a flat the supplied wrench won't work and will leave you stranded. The ones that Chevy uses are complete crap and when I get tires rotated they normally cut the caps off with a grinder.

Same d@mn thing happened to me, but at my 30k service. I thought the dealership was running some kind of scam. They said all 20 were swollen and they could do each at $8. Went home and did some research and it seems like it's a real problem. Anyone have success from corporate Toyota to get it replaced for free? Seems like poor quality of material combination they used. Ford's having a huge problem with this also.
