    Hey everyone.

I am going to be starting to tow with my '23 Limited with rear air suspension in about 3 weeks and trying to make sure I have the right hitch to do it. My trailer is a 1400 lb aluminum open trailer that I am going to towing a C6Z06 corvette on. So total weight is going to be about 4500 lbs or so.

I measured my trailer coupler height unloaded at 16" and the top of the receiver on the truck at 19", that should mean I need at least a 3" drop hitch. I am looking at getting a Weigh Safe adjustable hitch to take the guess work out of tongue weight and I can choose between a 4" or 6" maximum drop. I am thinking of going with the 4" but I am slightly concerned about the trailer sagging a little bit once I load it with the car. Is it reasonable to expect less than an inch of sagging from the trailer?

What are most people with similar setups i.e. non-OR suspension and towing an open deck car trailer, using for drop hitch lengths?

    Thank you!

Posted pre-coffee. You literally said adjustable hitch in your post. My bad, many lashings for me, carry on!

I think you’re going the wrong direction. If you’re worried about the rear end sagging - you’d want less drop not more. Maybe I don’t understand what you’re asking.

I mean to say that the trailer itself will sag, thus increasing the amount of needed drop to keep it level. This is all because my truck has the load leveling suspension, so the hitch height is fixed so any change in coupler height has to be accounted for in the drop hitch to keep the trailer level. Does that all make sense?

I understand where you’re coming from but I don’t think the ride height of the trailer will change significantly loaded vs unloaded. Not enough suspension to make a difference IME.

FWIW, my Tundra is lifted and I still only need a 4” adjustable hitch. My little 5x10 utility trailer is likely in the same coupler height range as your trailer and 4” drop is perfect. My 20’ flatbed has an adjustable Bulldog coupler, so I use less drop on my ball to reduce leverage on that part.

I run a 2” drop on my 16’ trailer. Truck is on 34’s. With the rzr loaded the trailer is level and the truck has an inch or so of sag. Drives like a dream.
