Just adopted Maxwell’s Silver Jammer, a cherry ‘10 dual cab SR5 w/well-worn Toyo 265/70R18s. Found a lightly used set of Yokohama 255/70/18 YK-HTX road tires online. Considering the narrower set for summer on-road use and then switching to Cooper Defenders when the weather changes. Question: What negative effects will I experience with narrower tires? No plans to be off-roading, towing or hauling heavy loads, so willing to sacrifice rubber on the road for quiet smoothness and fuel economy, so long as the narrow footprint does not create unforeseen problems. Whaddaya think?

I love my 255/70 Michelins on light weight BBS Forged wheels.

No ill effects here either and mine are the Falken Wildpeaks which are a better than just decent AT tire all around!

Do you notice better gas mileage with that setup? When my AT2 wear out I am going straight to those Defenders. They are one of a kinda.

I don't check my MPGs, and I have my A/T2s mounted on a set of SR5 alloys for the winter months.
I was going to go with Defenders, but I found a 2nd set of LTX M/S2s for cheap - they are in climate controlled storage.

I have 10k miles on 255/75/17's Cooper Discoverer ATS 4s on lightweight wheels from TireRack.com. The steering feels better, not really sure about gas mileage but just returned from a quick trip from SLC,UT 350 miles. 5 people, near maximum payload, 80-90mph, 100+F. 17.5mpg manually calculated.

The 255/70 is the stock size on most of the Tundras.
