Bought a new 2024 and only got one key fob but was also given a small metal backup key. Other than unlocking the truck what good is it if the fob is lost? You can't start the car correct?

Allegedly getting the second key via a recall but given the horror stories here I doubt that's happening soon.

The second FOB won't come with a metal key. Surprised the dealer didn't mention that.

If the fob battery is dead, the metal key allows entry and by touching the fob to the Start/Stop button, the truck can be started. But, correct, the truck cannot be started without the fob.

Yeah I figured I'd get a fob without the mechanical key. They said 1-2 weeks lol.

That’s strange, I just purchased a 2024 as well and got both keys before leaving the dealership. I thought Toyota was done with giving out the coupon for an extra key at a later date.

Bought my 2024 Limited Dec. 4th and am just getting my 2nd FOB. Got two keys and one FOB at delivery. Was told 6-8 weeks to get 2nd FOB and would be notified by Toyota. Checked dealer service and was told online records show I already got two FOBs. Had to get salesman and service advisor together and call Toyota customer service to straighten things out. But I have read of some 2024 deliveries are now with two sets of keys and FOB. Others are getting them with first service. If you don’t hear from dealer or Toyota in 2 months, be sure to follow up with them.

That metal key will go into the second keyfob when you get it. Bought mine in September and just got my second keyfob so it’s not an incredibly long wait like it was before.

Picked-up my '24 Capstone yesterday...same stories as above. My sales guy cited chip shortage continuance - so be it.

Right, but if we walked into the service department they actually have fobs they will sell us and program which I think is BS. The first dealer I almost bought from had them onsite...I called PRIOR to making the deal so I could throw that out there once we agreed on the price. "Give me a second fob or knock another $500 off the truck and I'll walk over to service and buy another one." When I actually bought the truck at another dealer the deal was about $8000 under MSRP so I was a bit more flexible. I guess I can put a tracker on my FOB for now.

kinda pissed about this right now. Bought my '24 SR5 January 6th and still don't have my spare key fob! Dealership told me last week they had one so yesterday I went to the service appointment to get it programmed to my truck (2 hours away!) and they told me there was a mistake and the key fob wasn't for my truck after all and they have no idea when I would get it! I hate having just one key - if anything happens to it I'm screwed! I'm a volunteer firefighter and missed a call due to misplaced keys once! If I had a spare I could've just grabbed that! Got a "Tile" gps tracker for my keys now so if it happens again I can locate the key fob with my phone.

This is part of the notice form sent to all dealers. They just don't tell you about it.

that's very interesting thanks. I think, as a volunteer first responder, that would constitute "extenuating circumstances" for getting a second key fob. If anything happens to my only key for my only vehicle it would impair my ability to respond to an emergency.

I bought a ‘24 Tundra last month and m currently waiting for a second fob. Being able to use the phone app has eased the inconvenience of only having 1 fob. I saw others here have obtained fobs from carandtruckremotes.com with good results so I ordered an OEM Tundra fob and went to the dealer today to have it programmed. They could not program it, saying they think it had previously been programmed for another vehicle and once that happens, they cannot be reprogrammed. That sounds like a bunch hooey to me, so I figured I’d see what you guys had to say before I try to send it back to the vendor. I called a few vehicle locksmiths that advertise they can program fobs and they said they would try to program it and not charge if they were unsuccessful. I’m going to do some more digging though.

On a separate note, I asked about the ETA for a second fob and they said that Toyota will not make second fobs available until they stop making 2024s and begin 2025 production so they could not tell me it would be X number of months.

Bought new '24 Tundra Platinum end of April, came with only one FOB and two metal keys. Purchase out of state (~1300 miles) due to options available and pricing discounts. Received an update in the app under 'Service Campaigns' in mid-June for 23TJ01 - Second Key Delivery Program. Called local dealer to setup appointment. Took about an hour, but got 2nd FOB.

I called Toyota Engagement to get a second keyfob after owning my truck for only a couple weeks. They authorized it, sent an email to the dealer and they gave me the second keyfob.

A few months later, I took my truck in for maintenance and the service rep told me they were going to do some recalls including giving me my second keyfob. I told him I already have my second keyfob, as Toyota authorized it a few months ago. He insisted they need to give me another keyfob because their records show I only have one keyfob. I insisted I didn't want it because I didn't want Toyota to find out and bill me for a 3rd keyfob.

I picked up my truck after maintenance, drove it home and noticed a keyfob in the cupholder. I now have 3 keyfobs.
