Looking at potentially buying a new full size suv. My wife and I possibly want a third child which only leaves us looking at an extended version SUV. It basically narrows down to the expedition max or the suburban (don’t really like the Tahoe’s screen layout and they’re even pricier). I know the suburban has the diesel option but my wife often makes short trips to the grocery store and to run other errands which I heard isn’t very good for diesels. Which one would you guys get and why?

We have 3 kids in car seats and we're managing just fine with my truck and my wife's Pilot. No domestic reliability concerns.

Don’t get the 6.2 GM. The engine in my Yukon was replaced at 12k miles and as much as I can tell, the same piece of shit 6.2 was reinstalled.

Sienna XSE is the right choice. We have one, along with 3 kids and my 24 Tundra. Perfect setup.

I’m open to the minivan idea more than my wife is I think! Haha. I wish Toyota did something about the battery in the sequoia its cargo space is horrible! I also wish they made an extended wheelbase version too

Id pay off the existing cars if you haven’t already and make those work. 3 kids fit in my 4runner all good. Easily in the Tundra second row too.

I just got my wife a 2016 Sequoia. 2nd Gen Sequoia's are probably the best full size SUV ever made. And they made them for another year after the 2nd Gen Tundra. So plenty of low mileage 2022 Sequoias out there with "adequate" amount of modern features and amenities

New Sequioa is the first vehicle we considered but like you said the trunk space is completely nonexistent and unacceptable for a vehicle of that size. Definitely test drive the Sienna in the XSE trim and you won’t regret it.

The newer subs and expeditions almost look like minivans anyways. Just gotta fully commit!

I had a post from a few years ago. Worth reading.

To update, we've got 65K on it without any mechanical issues. Ours, and friends, are experiencing software glitches. Things like radio being unreliable, my wife now avoids CarPlay, and a lack of heat to the kids. It's been in for firmware updates to the head unit and the on-board router (forget its acronym), but you get the point.

Also, we rented an Expedition Max on a trip once and its interior exceeds the Suburban's. Drivetrain? Not so much. I prefer v8 torque and linear power band.

    Out of those choices, Expedition.

If I ever recommended a minivan to my wife, she would have said "sure. Sell the truck and you can have the minivan." She's pretty anti minivan.

If she doesn’t want a minivan and you don’t want to deal with GM or Ford, why not look at a Toyota Grand Highlander? It solves the Sequoia cargo area issues, and has a more useable 3rd row. It can fit 7 max carry on luggage items behind the 3rd row by the way.
