As I was washing my new 2023 1794 for the first time today, I noticed that the new grill design is not only a PITA to clean, but it also feels incredibly flimsy. I was reminded of when I hit a huge tumble weed traveling across Kansas in heavy winds in my 2015 Tundra. The thumb-sized stem of the tumble weed punched a hole in the grill. That wasn't a cheap replacement part. The grill on my new Tundra seems even more flimsy than that one, and I'm sure it's even more expensive to replace.

It seems like hitting a big grasshopper could potentially damage this new grill. To be honest, it's my least favorite design change on the new Tundras.

What are your experiences with this new grill design's durability? Is it really as fragile as it seems?

    Thanks for your thoughts.

Have a 22 1794 Tundra and never seen a truck grill that fragile ever. A bird at highway speed will take it out i know for sure. Already happened to me. I do love the truck but grill is weak.

The grill? Let’s not forget the sheet metal, the paint, and some of the rattle plastic inside.

Hopefully that's the extent of your truck vs. wildlife experience. My score is deer 1 grill 0. $10,000 damage, it's been over a month and I still don't have my truck.

    Ouch!! Sorry to hear that.

What ever happened to real steel bumpers? I hit 2 deer with a 2002 Ford 250. I hated that truck, but it scored truck 2 deer 0. The only damage from either incident was a wrinkled front license plate.

    New Grill Durability?

Jenn-Air are all stainless apart from the burners. They tend to withstand the ravages of time.

It’s now all about the safety rating and (mpg)
If the front of a vehicle hits a wall (or moose) at 50 mph – everyone in the vehicle moves forward at 50 mph. By having the front of the vehicle start crumpling progressively – the impact to the passengers is lessened. A drawback is the high cost of repairs as everything has been crumpled and smashed in a major collision.

Less stiff plastics (and there is a lot of plastic in the new Tundra and all new vehicles) help to prevent injury to passengers and saves lives.

Do you know which part/s is causing the delay?

Air duct was the last reported holdup. Not sure if they're referring to the radiator shutter or not. They mentioned early on having difficulty with part numbers. It's at a Toyota dealership body shop.

Nice!! So that bad boy holds up ? I’ve hit deer with my Westin bumper guards and it caused more harm than damage.

Nice truck. That bumper takes the mustache look away.

Grill guards do that, bumpers usually do not
    Thank you!

I was looking at that bumper. For the price, I have a hard time calculating the deductible and money lost. I travel 30-60k a year for work so I am really still considering it as it is the only one I have found that covers the whole front. I was looking to Ranch hand, but they only offer grill guards at this point.

When I hit a deer with my 2016 tundra the cost for all the plastic part replacement and supports was way more expensive than a bumper was. This will clearly save you a lot of money in the long run. Assume you hit an animal. people are paying like $10,000 for a repair.

I used to do 60k a year towing in Idaho, mt and Wyoming and averaged 3 dear a year
