    Hi All,

Inherited my fathers truck and looking to fix it up a bit. Hoping I can get some help finding new headlight assembly that is lightly smoked in color. I can find for 2005, I can find for standard and access cab but not for the double cab, any recommendations?

Below are the upgrades I am looking to add

    1. Headlight Assemblies - smoke
    2. Led headlights or should i try to go projector?
    3. Recommended Fog Light replacements
    4. Front Bumper current is white and broken
    5. Rear Bumper black plastic has fallen off.
    6. Not a fan of the cloth seats, would prefer leather only ones I found are from leather.com thoughts?
    7. Shocks what do ya'll recommend?

Also for the grill there was one i found that has the old fashioned TOYOTA name in the center with 4 yellow lights above it any thoughts reco's

    Thank you so much!!!

    Tom

Before you do anything, do yourself a favor. Go read the first two replies in this thread at least 2-3 times: https://www.tundras.com/threads/so-you-wanna-buy-just-bought-a-1st-gen-tundra-eh.115928/

It answers most of your line-items. They'll also give you the info you need to arm youself, even with something as simple as LED light upgrades, and things that are going to cause you problems if you do the upgrade.

Oh, and on smoked headlight assemblies:

You unfortunately failed to put the cab type (RC,AC,DC) in your truck info of your profile, but I came to glean that you may have a DC based on your wording. You may want to update your truck info in your Profile ("Vehicle one-line description) to include "DC" for Double Cab, since so many differences exist between cab types.

That said, I've never seen "smoked" light housings for these trucks that are of any quality. You can get the Akkon blackout housings from scAmazon which are good for 05-06 DC trucks (I don't otherwise recommend buying any parts from scAmazon unless you like counterfeit stuff, but with cheap headlight assemblies, most are crap to slightly-less-than-crap which may not lost more than a few years, so it doesn't matter anyway). Be careful of some headlight assemblies, like the ones with C-shaped LED strips, which may require custom wiring.

    HI Shifty,

I thought i had added the cab type thanks for letting me know I have updated that.
I had gone through a lot of reasearch for the headlight assemblies in smoke but found nothing so figured I'd start this thread and add in a few other things!
My understanding is that 05 doesnt fit 04 and there are few options for the 04.
Thank you for the thread suggestion i will review that today!

I haven't found any smoked housings for these trucks while hunting out other stuff, but I haven't looked very hard either.

Someone on here just this week, a few posts down, was looking for black access cab housings for their '05-'06 but the only thing available is for double cab '05-'06 or reg/access cab 00-04. Seems like DC gets all the goodies, and '05-'06 DC has the most options. But for the most part, it's all black or clear, no smoked. And I'm not sure about '04, what the compatibility discrepancy there.

I think the reality is, (1) these trucks are getting older, (2) were more coveted for reliability than customizability, (3) the owners typically aren't into building "malldozers" with lights underneath, high-offset wheels, rubber band tires, body lifts, and other obnoxious shit, that tends to also be the crowd who want ready-to-go smoked fixtures.

BITD, if we wanted smoked fixtures, we'd use window tint. Then someone invented spray-on tint, and we'd use that, then clearcoat over it because tint is notoriously hard to wrap around corners. Not sure if these are options for you. But I'll warn again: There are a limited few manufacturers out there who build quality housings for these trucks. DEPO, TYC, Eagle Eyes are a couple, and Akkon isn't bad. And there are also some notoriously bad companies putting out trash for our trucks, like, READ THIS and also THIS, users who got dead-on-arrival stuff, poor fitment, AND some requiring you to hack your OEM harnesses which is total bullshit, only an asshole hacks the factory harnesses to make upgrades.

Hey! Thought I should chime in since I recently purchased an 04 and bought both new headlights and fog lights.

I can't comment on smoked headlights, but I think you're right on the 04 being a slightly different size than 05-06.

I purchased my headlights and fogs from Rockauto:
    TYC 20617700 (20-6177-00) Headlamp Assembly
    TYC 20617800 (20-6178-00) Headlamp Assembly
TYC 19558400SET Fog / Driving Lamp Assembly

I chose to do the LED projector retrofit and you should be able to find a write up on here if you search. Just note you'll be destroying the reflector on your lights to do it.

Info on that is linked from the thread in reply #2, but this is another, easier-to-access thread on the topic that also links out to ample info.

Resistors may or may not be required.

I don't think hyperflash is a known issue with that specific upgrade, as it is with many non-projector LEDs. I've already installed a new smart flasher from Diode Dynamics, so there was no risk of hyperflash for me.
