Anyone else a LC fan that feels very disappointed? $80k for the lame launch edition with birth control wheels and weak powertrain. Might as well lift a RAV4 and put rims on it...now a TRD Pro for that $ with our iForce V6 tt, 10 speed auto or 6 speed manual option, Pro Fox suspension and our Pro wheel and tire setup I'd look at it then...overpriced and lame.

But that's what prospective buyers want, as customers feedback shows. They would lease it for 2 years, conquer mall parking, dump it and jump into a new one. Like Toyota wants. They want a heritage brand dildo-shaped plasticy entertainment system on wheels. Not that ugly boxy bastard from 70s that can do everything, but would need you to know how to actually use it.

That's hilarious but sadly more true than false...Being first has always cost more so I kind of get it with the Launch Edition. I'm a huge LC fan but I guess I just want too much. With our engine and trans that thing would rip!

I would give my middle nut for a Dune Beige 70 series troopy. In my opinion, the epitome of what a Land Cruiser should be! Solid axle, manual seats and windows, lockers, cloth seats, manual transmission and a reliable diesel engine!

Sadly, the US will never see such a thing. If Toyota could turbo charge a small hybrid engine and mount it in a maple bar donut that identifies as a climate change activist with a lot of Tik Tok followers, it would sell more in the US than a traditional LC.

Man, I want a manual driver seat in my Tundra. Passenger is manual, very convenient. I think I will also convert door window controls to always on, so I could raise or down them at night without key in ignition switch.

Well toyota is delivering and vehicle that has more hp ,torque , better fuel economy, better off road performance than any Land Cruiser it has ever built .
It also helps their overall brand fuel mileage average mandated by the govt .
Just like all the previous land cruisers it is a starting point if you want a hard core off roader.
The bigV8 ‘s are a thing of the past in the future thanks to the governments green agenda.
Soon it will be an EV Land Cruiser if the green administration has its way.
Just remember when it’s election time ,
And you cast your ballots .

Cold hard facts, just underwhelmed with the new LC and Taco...but I'm not their market. That 2018 LC my friend has for sale is looking better all the time.

The 200 series is heavy big and definitely not a serious off road machine without serious work.
They are more of suburban housewife vehicles stock.

80K? Holly smokes. That eFeed up. Glad I got me another Gen 2.5. Even a Lexus GX is better in price and options at that price point.

V35A-FTS, 10 speed, and stock wheels and tires that aren’t pathetic and sad you say? How about we add electronic disconnecting sway bars front and rear? Then throw on some variable shocks.

You just described the Lexus GX550 Overtrail. Costs about the same as the Lame Cruiser but is 1000% better.

I hope they all take delivery...of course 5000 fan boys will show up to trade up from their Rav4...just kidding they can't make it too good it would cut into 4Runner sales.

    No, they’re protecting GX550 sales.

The Land Cruiser based on the new 250 series architecture is a twin to the 250 based GX550. The GX550 gets all the good bits because it’s the luxury brand and Toyota/Lexus don’t want the LC to cannibalize GX sales. So very clear differences in equipment exist and there will not be overlap. Period.

Expect the same treatment for the 4Runner vs Land Cruiser. The Land Cruiser will be the top dog, the 4Runner is going down market.

The “return” of the Land Cruiser is just that we get a Prado with a Land Cruiser badge. When they said the “return”, everyone expected an LC300 that was somewhat reasonably priced and more off-road oriented than the LX600. I don’t think anyone was itching for a new Prado platform—that’s literally what the GX/4Runner are—with LC badges.

The factory triple locked 80 series with solid axles is probably the best performing off-road Land Cruiser.

Already watched a bunch of the first drive videos. Confirmed my suspicions that the GX550 Overtrail is the correct route for me if I decide on an SUV vs a new Tundra.

Not that reviews for the LC250 are bad, all the European journalists seemed to genuinely like it.

I agree the Lexus overtrail is a great option .
It fits the bill for luxury and off road work .
If you want to make it more off road , I think the Land Cruiser would be easier and cheaper to make bad ass off road vehicle .
Just depends on what you’re going to do . I really like the Lexus ,but it’s so nice I would hate to get it muddy

For essentially the same money as the Lame Cruiser in Lame Cruiser, or First Rip Off er I mean First Edition trim once you get a few decent options the GX550 Overtrail is clearly superior.

In fact if you account for needing to buy a set of all terrain tires for the Lame Cruiser the GX550 Overtrail might actually be a smidge cheaper since it comes with appropriate footwear already.

I love the Land Cruiser. I currently have three and would give my smaller nut to drive one of the new 1958s. And as much as I'd love to see a TRD Pro LC, I'd rather build one up myself. Leave that one for us I guess.

I always felt the 200/300s weren't true to what the LC was meant to be, which is a simple and rugged vehicle. Almost like a bare bones Jeep that you can build up on your own. Even my beloved V8 powered 100 Series (with 285K) drives like a luxury vehicle. Not sure we'll ever see the simple and rugged off-roader again outside of Roxor or Mahindra.

That being said, I chuckle at the pearl-clutching Tundra owners who criticize the mothership for coming up with these new versions of vehicles. Toyota has largely gotten out of selling niche vehicles and wants to sell you a daily driver. Hence the lack of single cab pickups or ballsy offroaders with no highway manners. Do you really want a 4 speed carburated straight six? I doubt it.

I agree to this as I owned one for 22 years and 446,000 trouble free miles... My brother had a Chevy 3500 dually longbed crewmax that was stuck off the side of the road. Four different 4 wheel drive pickups couldn't pull him out due insufficient traction. I said "I'll get you out no problem... I'm triple locked!" Pulled him out like butter and watched everyone's jaws drop. The legend exists for a reason.

The 80 series with everything locked in low range might as well be a tractor. LOL.

That’s awesome. I’ve always thought it’s common knowledge that a triple locked 80 with solid axles was the peak of Land Cruiser off-road performance. Nothing beats it for traction and articulation.

    I want one.

We have a 570. With its size, power, full time 4wd, and AHC, it exists at the intersection of towing, hauling, off-roading, manueverability, and longevity like nothing else out there. Unlocked 4Lo is a thing of beauty.

Thats the problem with any one of these vehicles (40, 60, 80, 100, 200): they make you want more.

Although, for an IFS rig, a factory 200 with KDSS is wild:

Agreed on 80 Series I have a 1995 but not triple locked as I'm more of a concrete cowboy lol...the 100 series is better on highway but there 80 is just cooler...

As much as I would love to see a TTV6 in the new Land Cruiser I don’t think it’s going to happen.

I might end up buying one despite my misgivings because the nearest Lexus dealer is just too damn far away for service and warranty work. After test driving a 1958 trim 2024 Land Cruiser both myself and my wife came away favorably impressed with the overall vehicle. The T24A-FTS iForceMax and 8 speed actually do pretty well particularly in low to midrange power delivery, almost diesel like. You can tell the turbo is sized for low and midrange power, above 4500 RPM or thereabouts you can tell it’s not as strong. For a truck it’s acceptable even if I would like more power.

Ride and handling were good, comfort was excellent, visibility is outstanding, and the truck is big enough to be useful but not so enormous it’s a pain in the ass to deal with on small roads, tight parking areas etc.

I drove my 1995 LC yesterday and 4500 rpm is all you want from that 4.5 straight 6 lol...with 33 inch tires not to speedy but gets out of it's own way. Had a killer stereo installed awhile back and I'd miss that. If I got one the 1958 would be it and then make it my own...GX550 Overtrail with the Mark Levinson if as good as the one in my old GX would fill the bill...no hybrid system to cause issues out of warranty.

Later today or on Friday morning I’m taking delivery of a new 2024 Land Cruiser. Had my 2015 Chevrolet SS totaled out due to lack of parts to repair a minor collision. Had to replace it quick and was all set to buy a Mazda CX-90, but the dealer salesman wasn’t answering the phone. That gave me time to look around and found a Land Cruiser in stock about 2.5 hours away, and decided to buy it.

Only downside is it’s on 20” wheels. I’ll fix that soon enough.
