Hello all and thank you for reading my post!

I have a 2007 Tundra CrewMax 2wd and a 2010 4runner. The 4runner rides a lot smoother and definitely do not feel every bump like my Tundra. I’ve had the truck for about 2 months now and just seems like it might be time for new shocks. My buddy’s 2012 Tundra rides better than my 4runner very smooth and you don’t feel every bump. Should I just go ahead and replace it all? Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated!

Any service history of the truck before you purchased? Total miles on the truck? Type of current shock? Budget?

Providing these details will help others steer you in the right direction much more than a "bump" will.

Hi, tires play a factor in this as well. Plus any load already on your truck, like steel?

To clarify, tire size, tire inflation, and tire rating all affect it. For example, E-rated ride hard.

I recently replaced my worn stock black front shocks with KYB gas-a-just shocks. Night and day difference in ride quality. Before the ride as rough, harsh, and uncontrolled. After it is smooth, comfortable, and very controllable.

KYB is a budget option though (~$100 per corner) and will require the usage of a spring compressor for install. If I get 3-5 years out of these I'll be happy.

I replaced my rear shocks with KYB gas-a-just and didn't notice nearly as much improvement compared to changing the fronts.

The answer to this question depends on how much you have to spend?

    best oem value option:
trd off road shocks (bilstein 4600)

    best option medium:
    bilstein 5100

    best option medium plus:
    bilstein 6112 & 5160

    best option premium:
    kings, Fox

I just put on some OEM red trd shocks up front. I tried kyb mono max, after 10k miles the kyb weren’t riding well, not enough rebound valving.
The oem red bilsteins are waaaaaay better

168 K on the truck and it has yellow and blue shocks. Tires are 275/65/18 Michelin at3 on black DX4 wheels. Budget wise probably a in the medium range. Should I also replace struts?

    Thank you all so much

What about struts? What is a good mid grade to go with?

The front struts are composed of an inner shock wrapped in a coilover spring. If you don't want to replace the entire assembly (due to expense or whatnot), either you or a shop can replace just the inner shock and reuse the coil spring. The answer from txtundra311 still applies.

Would you recommend changing out the coil springs?
