IMG_3318.jpg IMG_3312.jpg New to me 2002. 115 thousand miles with unknown history. I did a timing belt inspection thinking that it was original from 2002 - sure looked good. Based on the picture below wanted to see if anybody was in agreement that it had to be replaced sometime along the way… older gentlemen owned the truck since 02. Second picture is of the downstream oxygen sensor. It looks like it bolts on and that the bolts are completely corroded. I take it. I can just Wrench, what is left of these off and throw some new 12 mm bolts on the studs?

Good luck with that approach. More than likely a nut splitter if it’ll fit or cutting a slot in the nut with a dremel cutting wheel to pry it apart.

So you want to roll the dice on whether or not that timing belt is good? That's a great way to turn the truck into a "new to me 2002 paperweight". Recommended intervals for timing belts are 90K/9years. Why not just start with a fresh one for peace of mind? As for the O2 sensor: is it leaking? Are you getting CELs? Yeah it's gross, but if it ain't broken, don't fix it. If there's that much corrosion there, what does the rest of the frame look like? Point being; there might be areas that you would want to address first. Throw up some more pictures. And, have you read the mega thread yet? There's three things that will kill these trucks: 1) Frame corrosion. 2) Timing belt failure. 3) Lower ball joint failure. What's your status on numbers 1 and 3?

I don’t think that belt has ever been replaced.

Would not doubt if you have stored codes for cat efficiency (gauge bulb may be blown) due to the leak at that sensor. Have you canned for codes? But yeah, what you said is how I would handle. And use gaskets if EPC shows you need them. Sometimes they exist downstream. But note the bung mating surface looks borked also.

If it's a single owner vehicle, 'unknown' is going to more than likely mean 'not done'. If they had done it, they would know (because it isn't cheap to get it done by someone else, so they'd remember!) and would have said so as it ups the value. Plus it doesn't look that new to me. I really wouldn't roll the dice on that one.
