Hi all, I wanted to introduce myself to the Tundra fam! Just picked up a new to me 2012 double cab 5.7 limited with 180k on the odometer. Been wanting to get into a 2nd gen for a while now, was hard to find one with no rust and non-FFV dc. Coming from the 4Runner family (2008 v8 → 2018 SR5P) I am very happy to be back in a V8 to say the least. I purchased this with the intention of building the bed out to take my girls camping here in Colorado.

My mechanic gave it a clean bill of health, just needed to replace the water pump and rear shocks. Took it to the good folks at RSG offroad; they are going to get me setup with new Bilstein 6112/5160 shocks, Icon RXT leaf pack, upper and lower control arms, tie rods and alignment next week. I knew before buying a used truck I needed to do a suspension overhaul to accommodate a build-out in the back and gain some clearance for the trails, just an interesting feeling to put this much into a truck with 180k. I plan on keeping it as long as she will run, so starting to feel better about the appointment!

So far I’ve replaced the water pump, serpentine belt, thermostat, brakes, changed oil and fluids. Currently running Duratrac 275/70/18 on Fuel Hostage wheels, going to bump these up to the new Duratrac RT’s in a 285/75/18 at the time of the suspension work. I’ve been in the BFG KO family the last 15 years, but these current Duratracs are night and day differences in the snow, even with ~30% tread left.

Anyways, It’s good to be here. Stay tuned for the build!
