I sold my silver 2014 Tundra Crewmax Platinum a few months ago. There were a few reasons I sold it but I quickly realized how much I missed it. After extensively searching for the ‘right’ one, I purchased it last week. My dad and I made a little road trip and I bought it. This one is a black 2015 Tundra Crewmax SR5. While the SR5 doesn’t have all the bells and whistles like the Platinum, this one drive so much nicer, probably because it only has 68k miles. I like to think that it’s practically new.

I have a list of things I’d like to do to my new Tundra.

    1. Install paint matched hood bulge and grille surround. I purchased the TRD Pro option from my local Toyota dealership but I’m not sure I’ll like the black on black ‘Toyota’ grille. My plan is to find a silver horizontal style Platinum grille and mount it to my surround. I couldn’t buy it that way because the Platinums were actually paint code 218 while mine is Onyx Black 202.

    2. Paint the bumper corners. I’ve searched a few different options with this. There are the skins you can double side tape or plastidip them. I think I’m going to get a spare set off here/marketplace/CL, remove the chrome and have a local shop paint them to match.

    3. Spray in bed liner. I got Rhino Lining on my last Tundra but it didn’t hold up very well. I might try LineX on this one. I’ve heard most of the Ziebart shops are franchised so maybe I got a bad spray of Rhino Lining.

    4. Powdercoat the wheels. This is where I’m stuck and need some help. I’ve not seen the TRD/TRD Pro wheels painted anything other than black or bronze. I’ve searched the forum and google but can’t find anything. Is there an existing thread for this? I’d like to paint mine gunmetal but want to see it first. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Here it is, the day I bought it!

You have the Off Road package wheels. Have not seen OR rims powdercoated in anything other than the black, bronze here. But I bet a google search might have some. But for the cost of powdercoat and the fact that you wont be able to use the truck during that process, you might be better off selling yours, (they will sell) and buying something aftermarket as you like. That would really open up custom looks for you and wheels of most any color you like.
Here is a thread that may be helpful -https://www.tundras.com/threads/lets-see-powder-coated-stock-rims.36600/

    Two other mod suggestions :spending:-
get the desert does it seat jackers. Major improvement in comfort! and cost is low. Once you try them you will wish they were mod number 1.
And if you have halogen headlights, the factory TRD Pro LED lights are also a huge improvement and again, cost is not bad and they are toyota quality. You will need to get the @iHacker harness for plug and play.

Both of those are so worth the cost/effort....if I would have known when I first purchased they would have been the first mods I did.

I was planning on getting a second set for the swap. And then selling the spare set. Or something like that. On my last tundra I had Icon Speed Six 17” but I won’t do that again. They had the fake bead lock lip that looks cool but water and snow would stay in that lip causing weird balance issues. Also, having the tire shop install weights in the desired spot would cause caliper rubbing.

As for the seat jacks, I’ll have to check that out!

Did you buy oem headlights or aftermarket? I can’t imagine oem being cheap. The ones in Roman’s guide?

OEM....the TRD Pro LEDs, they are tinted dark and beautiful. Many of the toyota parts sales are running specials. Just saw in another thread today about the factory LEDS, that they were 20% off with a link to that vendor. If you search it should show up or browse the first 3 or so pages of posts to find it.

I highly recommend the Line X liner. Had it a 93 Chev truck I had, thing was 15 years old at least and it looked brand new and held up to any/all abuse I threw at it. If the Tundra didn't have the spray in, thats how I would have gone.

I purchased a new hood bulge and a TRD Pro grille assembly, both in Onyx Black 202 from my local dealership. I also purchased a Platinum grille and Magnetic Grey Metallic surround off FB Marketplace. I planned on taking the Platinum grill from the MGM surround and installing it onto the black surround. Then selling the TRD Pro grille and the MGM surround.

I tried buying the Platinum grille and surround already mated but it only comes in Attitude Black 218.

Funny thing about it, when I opened the surround, an Attitude Black bulge was in the Onyx Black labeled box. I talked with my Toyota Parts Department, and they’ve ordered another so hopefully I have the proper color in a few days.

On to the Platinum grille. While the pictures on FB looked perfect, I received a damaged piece. UPS did a number on the box and cracked the grille assembly. The seller sent pictures of the grill and box when he shipped it and I have no reason to think I got scammed. I’ve put in a claim with UPS so we’ll see what happens there.
