So my 2008 CM SR5 came with steel wheels when I bought it. Bought some sweet alloy wheels from the company in Colorado that this forum members love. Bought the Toyota TPMS that that company said were the right ones from Toyota. Bought new Ridge grapplers from Discount tire and they put them on my new rims and install the Toyota TPMS . This was three years ago. Love the rims and tires. They were never able to clear my dash light in five different tries. Toyota dealer said they couldn’t do it either? Their excuse was I bought wrong TPMS .

So now for three years I have just lived with it and check my pressure weekly.
Went Monday to get a tire rotation at discount tire and bit the bullet and had them install their TPMS . They programmed them Monday and I went back there today and they programmed them again. Light is still on? Paid $250.00 from Toyota three years ago and now I paid $214.00 at Discount.
Should I just go to discount and demand my money back?
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Love yours. D

    Alot of them
Did they delete the old serial numbers from the trucks computer? Check the tire pressure too. Our local DT airs them on the low side.

They had them at 35 psi. When I went back I had them put all at 50 psi. That’s what I run them at all the time. 80 psi is the max on the tire. When I go back I will check that they delete old serial numbers. Thanks. D

As far as I know, you have to go into the TPMS ECU and delete the numbers on the discarded sensors, and enter the numbers that are printed on the new sensors. When I got new rims, I bought new sensors (not even OEM Toyota ones), installed them myself, changed the numbers in the TPMS ECU myself with Techstream, and boogied over to DT to have new tires put on. Sold the old rims with slightly used tires that I was not happy with still mounted. I doubt that DT goes into the TPMS ECU to change sensor registration numbers, and who knows what any dealer would do? One would think the dealer knows to do that, but we all know how some dealers work, or don't work.

Check and see if your spare has TPMS. I went round and round with that once on my 4runner, ended up the spare had TMPS from the factory and the spare was low on air. Once I inflated the spare to correct pressure no more warning lights.

I had to have mine calibrated at discount tire twice, then I got a full size spare with a tpms I bought from discount tire, and same thing. After that time it resolved and has been working since. They had to recalibrate all of mine when i added the new spare also. Don’t know if any of that info helps you.

So I go to discount tire again today. Told them they need to erase the original TPMS serial numbers from my truck ecu. They replaced all four TPMS and light is still on. Told me that they cannot erase serial numbers from my tundra’s ecu. They said sorry about this and told me to take it to Toyota dealer and see if they can clear it? So I will wait a few days and go that route. Thanks for all the help. Love yours. D

Did you check the spare as suggested above?

They told me the spare does not have one in it. 4Runners yes. Tundras no. I did check the pressure in my spare. It was at 30 so I bumped it up to 45 psi. Thanks. D

Went to IGH Toyota here in the Twin Cities. Service writer said that they will not try to get TPMS to work unless I buy theirs. He said it’s all about the frequency. Generic ones from Discount tire are probably the wrong frequency. I am going back to Discount tire and ask for my money back. $214.00. Peace. D
