I'm running nitto ridge grapplers LT 275/65r/18 116 on 2015 tundra crewmax 4x4, tires are wearing on outer edge, tire store said alignment was ok, had toyota dealer checked it said it was with in specs, tires have been rotated at every 5 k miles. didnt make sense so I took it to a frame shop & front alignment specialist. they said made minor adjustments. told me they thought tires maybe flexing side walls going around turns and corners with truck being heavy. contacted nitto they said tire pressure should be 36-39 lbs. was running 34 lbs. I know low pressure causes wear on both inner & outer edges never heard of low pressure just wearing on outer edge of tires, usually alignment or worn suspension. dont do off road had truck since new 65 k miles

My tires have all worn slightly more on the outside edges which I attributed to cornering at speed. I frequent a twisty road that can be driven fairly aggressively. We also have several roundabouts in town that I go around several times a day. I've had my alignment checked every 20 or 30k and it has always been in spec until the last adjustment, which was just a slight amount of toe. I also rotate every 5k and rebalance at least every 10k.

Running tires under inflated an cause them to roll over a little in the corners, which would wear the outer edge more than the inner. Why not the inner of the other tire as much? Because of weight transfer. As you go around the corner, weight is transferred from the inside wheel to the outside while, causing it to squish and roll over more than the inner tire.

i had a set of nitro terra grapplers on my dodge i had. Every rotation was done, alignment was perfect and the tires would cup every other tread on the outside of the tires.

Are your LT's load range E? If so, I'd run them at 39.

My last set of tires were Ridge Grapplers. 20 R55x305. Run max tire pressure as the Tundra is a heavy truck. It makes a big difference. Also do this. Unmount the tires from the rims and turn around. The outside will then be on the inside for all 4 tires. This will help maximize your tire life.

My first new set of tires were Nitto Terra Grapplers G2 20 R55x305's. They didn't wear well and all 4 wore out on the outside edges. I rotated them about every 5 to 6,000 miles at oil changes. I bought a new set and instead of the 32 lbs Firestone put in I inflated myself to 44 lbs. This set wore much better. I also reversed them a couple of times on the rims and rotated every oil change. This set wore perfectly even. Then my next set was the Ridge Grapplers. I did the same thing and these were the best tires I've had on my Tundra. I thought I'd try Toyo's and I now have the Open Country hybrid. The equivalent of the Ridge Grapplers. When these wear out I'm going back to Ridge Grapplers. I don't like the Toyo brand. More expensive doesn't mean better that's for certain, $425 per tire.
Do what I suggested and you will see the difference it makes.

You probably didn't have any wear on the edge of your tread, did you?

The Ridge Grapplers I had cupped the side lugs no matter what pressure I ran them at. Tried the chalk test and everything but couldn't save them once they started wearing and they got worse and worse before I got rid of them at about 50k miles. Obnoxiously loud on the highway and they vibrated bad at low speeds once they were worn.

Hahaha, now I understand. I've ran every set at 44-45 psi after my first set of Nitto's. The fist set were always at 32 psi and they wore very uneven. Most of the wear was on the outside edges.

Running at 44 psi and flipping the tires on the rims solved the problem for me.

I’ve got 45k on my ridge graps, and they’re getting pretty worn, I’ve had the same, wearing on the outside, usually after road trips to the mountains I come back and have to rotate them. Snow performance has dropped a lot, just got back from colorado and had to use 4x4 on all snowpack or ice or it was pretty bad. Probably going to go with an AT next time. Other than that been happy with them.

285/70r18 Ridge Grapplers here and just rolled 35,000 miles and 4 years and 4 months. Rotate ever 7500 miles or so, run 32 psi rear and 34 psi front as directed by Nitto with my truck.

There have been 2 times when my truck would wobble really bad and I thought it was tire imbalance but it ended up being uneven tire wear I rotated tires to resolve the issue.

On a road trip now and wear is what I expect at this mileage but they are really loud on the highway, it’s terrible and can’t hear my children talking in the cabin with the windows rolled up, over the tire humm on the highway.

If the wear is just on the outer edge, that has to be alignment. If it were tire pressure it should be on both edges.

    Try opening your toe.

I went against the manual and set camber and toe to zero - so far having great wear.

That's exactly what you would think, right? I have a lifetime alignment deal with my dealer. I have mine checked at every oil change and corrected if need be. My tire store said it wasn't my alignment.

When I started reversing my tires on the rims and running 44 psi they all started wearing evenly. I had photos of all 5 sets of my tires but I'm sure they are gone. If I find some I'll post them.

Yep, my tire store said they couldn't go with factory specs because of my lift and oversized tires.

Park on level pavement and check camber visually. Front tires should vertically line up rears. Check toe too while you are at it; the outside of the fronts should line up with the outside of the rears. Maybe your tires don't stick out enough to make that easy though...
