    Hi Team,
I am running Nitto trail grappler 35x12.5x20 Mt. And so far I have only 10k miles and it’s already have cracks. And it’s made in 2018 so only 2 years old. Is it normal? Does anyone else has same experience? And what do you think about Nitto Ridge grappler? Can you suggest any tires with thread life 40-50k miles without cracks or vibration issues?

It’s not normal lots of people have this issue with trail grappler. No doubt it’s good tire but cracks are not good. I contacted Nittos and then they told me get it checked at any local Nitto distributor and then I went to discount tires and they told me they will give me $100 credit per tire if I buy new set. But I don’t want to buy new one right now.

I've always had REALLY great experiences with Nitto as a company. I had 35" terra grapplers when they first came out on a lifted Yukon. Towed a race trailer with it and got over 50k on them before replacing - granted the terras are more of a road tread it was still impressive to me.

My truck now has 37" ridge grapplers on it and so far I love them. I can't believe how quiet they are for having such an aggressive tread block. I had an issue with outer wear from the previous owner, replaced the steering link ends with Coachbuilder ones and had a correct alignment and after the 2nd rotation it actually cleaned up, which you typically don't see in my experience.

Somewhat related I had 2 sets of NT420S light truck on a cammed and built Silverado SS that was lowered and got amazing life out of.
    I'd stick with Nitto :)

I have no experience with those tires (but have lots of mud tire experience) so take this opinion from a random internet stranger:

Those are cosmetic, not cracks. Don't worry about it unless it actually starts to bubble or expand in the area.

Which mud tires you have experience with? And did you put 40-50k miles on any of them without any issues?

BFG Mud Terrains (multiple generations), Toyo Open Country MT, Super Swamper (for the love of all things stay away) are the ones I have the most experience.

In my experience, getting 50k miles (80k km) on a mud terrain without ANY issues is rare. The more use use mud tire for the use they are intended for, the less likely they will last. Regular rotation is key, but they start chunking (loosing lugs) they tend to go quickly.

With that said, if the truck was using Mud Terrains primarily for the look and is spending most of the time on the street, both the Toyo and BFG muds should hit 40k miles.

this. i don't see any 'cracks'.

i currently have almost 25k on my grapplers. no issues. 5 wheel rotation every 5k and i run 38-40psi. the set on my FJ lasted about 48k. i'll probably get close to that with the tundra.

I took a closer look. Had to put on my reading glasses. Purely cosmetic. I did have rubber chunking off on mine that I had on my 07. That happened off road but you won't have that issue if you don't go off roading with them where there's a lot of sharp rocks.

the ridge grapplers are awesome. had them on my wife's sequoia awhile back. solid wet or dry, quiet and the mileage is good.

That would be awesome if you can hit 48k miles with the Grapplers.

    That's a loaded question :anonymous:

It really depends on the application. My current usage of the Tundra is less off road compared to past vehicles. I need a tire that can take a trail that might get a bit muddy to that fly fishing lake, be reliable on a commute to the office downtown (pre-COVID) in Canadian weather, handle towing travel trailer over mountains AND look cool on the truck.

Currently I'm running BFG All Terrains. This is my third set in my truck driving life and it will now be the last. I my opinion they are simply behind other manufacturers when it comes to a combination of traction, noise, wear and fuel economy.

My favorite with personal experience is the Cooper Discoverer STT MAXX. Fantastic traction for an AT and never let me down. But there are lots of great new tires that came out in 2020 that I haven’t had a close look at.

I tried it. It didn’t help much. They said show it local so I showed to discount tires they said they only can give perforated credit $100 per tire

43B61512-E13F-4CB5-B658-B8D1E32116B0.jpg Is this a normal use for you? To me it looks like normal marks from dirt and rocks. Not cracks from aging, but use marks. My tires also look like this after 10k because I spend a lot of time on dirt.

I don’t drive much on dirt. Plus I didn’t have any issues with stock tires. And this is first time I have experience with 35 inch mud tires so I was not sure if it’s normal. But still it shouldn’t have these cosmetic issue @ 10k miles and If it’s after 25k miles I wouldn’t care much either.

My Ridge Grapplers have the same stuff, and started at probably 15k miles or so. I have 32k on them now and haven't had any issues.

I wouldn't bank on MT's getting your 40-50k miles. With good rotations, you likely can get pretty close to 40k, but I would probably plan for 35k or so and hope for more. Before I get flamed, I know there are people that will say they run MT's that have had 40-50k on them, but not realistic that every set will make it that far.

Yeah I have had mine since 2019. Mine are cracked, definitely gonna steer away from nitto for this reason. May be normal, i don't like it tho. Gonna ditch these for sure here soon
