If Toyota moves exclusively to a V6, or Hybrid V6, engine for their 4th generation trucks, where does this leave us with our obsolete V8’s? Will it be difficult to get parts 10-15 years from now? Will they be super expensive? What if a guy needs to get an entirely new engine some time in the very distant future?

Everything I’ve read says that our beloved V8 WILL NOT BE in any new Toyota beyond 2021. They are completely phasing this engine out and repurposing the two facilities that produce them. I hope they make a bunch of them and rathole them before they shut those factories down. As reliable as this engine is, there will still be needs for parts and engines in our future.

I think that parts will be available for a long time to come.

It's a truck. Drive it and enjoy it. 15 years from now - who cares.

My FJ40 is nearly 45 years old and can still get parts easily and frankly surprisingly cheap, I'm sure a truck that half a million people own and was built for like 14 years and parts shared across multiple vehicles will be easy to get parts for for a very long time

I see cars that haven’t been made for twenty years all the time. They may sound like death warmed over but they run. Chevy, VW, Toyota…the OEM doesn’t matter if enough vehicles were produced.

These V8s have been around long enough and used in multiple vehicles. You’ll be able to find parts for a very long time.

I don’t think this is anything we really need to worry about.

My family and I have done car restorations (old cars; 60+ years old) and the aftermarket and NOS parts industries still thrive.

Toyota will likely support the Tundra for a long time. Couple that with large production numbers for this vehicle (since you can count 2007+ as a source for parts at a junkyard for the "3rd" gen trucks), and there should be no issue, especially for as short as 15 years.

For example, BMW still makes a ton of OEM parts for my '84 3 series. Brand new OEM fenders are more readily available than any aftermarket parts; that being said, they're $$$$!

The real concern is what are gas prices and emissions regs going to look like in 15 years? Trucks like this are going to be the first to get dumped once gas engine regs and fuel taxes start getting really tight.

I know I'm in the vast minority, but I still have a feeling the V8 will be an option. We'll see in short order however.

AND, like everything else, you will get any and all parts on the cheap.
    eg. complete engines for $3500.00
Check on Chevy engine parts and complete engines if you don't believe me.

Gas is going to be like cigarettes....fewer people using but they are taxed like crazy and cost will rise to discourage its use...

Ya the price of gas will never decrease... don't kid yourself. It's only going to go up as EVs become more commonplace to deter people from driving gas vehicles. I expect gas prices to literally double within the next 5 years, and I don't think that's an exaggeration at all. I may have picked the worst year to buy a V8 but I don't care because I love my tundra.

It's normal supply chain process. When something is obsoleted, the company will still support past products. It's ridiculous to think Toyota wouldn't have parts for the V8 available. Do you expect the same 5.7 V8 to exist for the next 10-15 years?

After having Tacoma’s for years and then 4runner Pro’s I decided to buy the last year tundra with the V8. My wife and I don’t need 2 SUV’s so I traded my 2020 4runner Pro in. My tundras gas is not much worst than my 4runner pro was. I had 285’s on it. It would be hard to give up this V8 they way it sounds with the dual exhaust on the Pro. My wife and I both love it. Even all my family and friends been in it say the same thing how much they like how it sounds. I wanted the last year just like I did on my 19C7 Z06. Last year for the manual and rear wheel drive. Took my Pro to the OBX in May. Next trip taking it to Maine. Thing is awesome.

I just thought there could be a shortage but maybe not, based on what has been said here. I am I got my 2021 Limited w/V8 and am reminded about that everyday I drive it.

Remember, this is the same engine that has been in the Sequoia and Land Cruiser too. Not as many of them, but it still ups the total number of vehicles with at least some interchangeable parts.

The article was written in Feb 21, so I suspect they were trying to protect sales of the 2021 models? Just guessing.

Could be! Just thought I’d share the article in case it wasn’t published in the American version.

It could also be regulated to not make parts available for gas engines when they want EV's to be in everyone's driveway . Just saying .

I too have thought about this. I would definitely pick up a crate motor and store it if it came down to it.
