    !Help

Just recently broke down due to maybe an electrical issue on interstate @65mph and the truck completely shut off. Immediately after shutting off, while I was in 2wd, the 4lo, 4hi, VSC and traction lights all appeared and were flashing. (No CEL).
Needless to say, I had to get a tow back to my home. I found the EFI Fuse was blown, So i replaced that and tried to start the truck.
Before I could even turn the key to RUN, it ran starter in the Acc position. After turning the key to OFF, the starter was still engaging thus resulting in pulling the battery terminals off.

So after thinking about it, I think I have narrowed it down to PCM or ECU or the key ignition relay or switch or remote start... but really ; don't know!

    Any thoughts??

    Faulty starter relay?

I had something similar in my old 92 Toyota truck with the starter sticking. It turned out to be worn contacts within the starter. They were easily replaced and solved the problem. The blown EFI fuse wasn't an issue for me at the time. It would be a weird coincidence to have 2 unrelated problems at the same time but strange things do happen.

I would first pull the starter relay then turn the ignition on and see what happens. If it does not turn then I would put the relay back in and see what happens. If this does not narrow it down then go after the starter. Be aware that a starter change on a 5.7L engine is not the easiest thing to do as it is buried on the inside of the exhaust manifold and requires many hours of work just to pull it out. There are some threads that cover it with pics but just a heads up.

Well, I can finally report back and this is what I've found so far.. when I installed the cold air intake their was an extra part I thought was a splash guard that hooked into fender (I guess). whatever it is unknowingly to me it slid down resting on the wire harness and assuming after awhile of vibrating it shorted out 2 wires 1-WB (ground an 1- 12g Blue. That was my EFI fuse issue because after fixed no more blown fuse. So now the only issue is when I turn key 'ON' the starter will engage until i pull starter fuse, no matter if key is 'on' or out of ignition completely.

A mechanic friend has been helping me and after last night his conclusion is the ECM is bad. Dash lights on are - 4lo (flash) CEL, slip indicator (flash & steady on).

Any and all input it greatly appreciated!

These are the things I would look at.

    1) Starter Relay
    2) Ignition Switch
    3) Look for more shorted wires

It's plausible that the ECM is shorted out. Do you know which circuit that blue wire was for?

I wouldn't get sidetracked with the starter. It sounds like a symptom of a larger problem. Even with the starter issue you can check for spark. If you have spark, feed it some starting fluid.

I would think that if you turned the key to the off position the starter would turn off. It should allow you to crank, crank, crank until it fires up but when you turn the key off it should shut off the starter. It may have 2 problems. Fuel pump not coming on and starter always on issue. Starter fluid may solve all problems.
