So I haven't come across a thread on this yet, but I want to remove my power running boards on my 23 Platinum and replace them with some Westcott sliders. Although the powered ones are a nice feature, I want the more aggressive look. I know I'll get an alert when I disconnect them. Is there a way to clear that? Has anyone done this?

Are you going to cut your harness like another user here? I have an SR5 and have added OEM power running boards. I bought them back September/October last year and just put them on about a month ago. Currently deployed and non operational until I make a harness.

I'm not great with electrical so I'll just zip tie it somewhere. I just tested it out and although the alert does come on, if I just switch it to power off the running boards, the alert won't come on. Duh. I was making this out to be more complicated than it is ‍♂️

just make sure you put on a blank connector for the disconnect and wrap it weather tight. otherwise it will short out after time due to corrosion and what not across the contacts.

i think someone said there was a blank insert/connector to fool the canbus that the boards were not there.

Ahhhh yes. Thank you, I didn't think of that. I'll try to find that blank insert.

Per my interactions with another user, I don't believe there's an easy way to take the harness out as it's integrated with the mains. There's an ECU that controls them too but also controls the electric bed step too.

Hello folks - I’d be interested in buying your equipment from the oem running boards. Just bought a 1794 with TRD pkg and really want the power off boards and step but Toyota (to my knowledge)!isn’t offering them as parts to add-on.

I bought all my components minus a wiring harness for about $1400 shipped. You might be lucky and be pre-wired. I have just an SR5 and am not. Mine are on but only in the deployed state.

That’s about what I expected to pay. Where did you buy it from? The dash switch come as well?

I bought the parts from ModernToyota in NC. Yes, the dash switch too. But like replacement parts, everything is a separate part number. There's a thread here where I shared my order. My local dealer quoted about $2200 but that was MSRP. I just took the list , searched 1 piece to find the lowest price/free shipping, then ordered it all. Took a few months to come in but I suspect it won't take as long now. A friend suggested making my own controller with relays and stuff , but I've already got the ECU and switch. About $350 for those 2.

Rockgate - where did you buy your oem power running boards from? Toyota isn’t offering them from what I’m being told from parts dept at my dealer.

Scratch that last post! Just seeing your reply. So the dealership ordered them for you??? I’ve asked 3 dealers around me and they all say they’re not available. If you can find that post with the order info it would be very much appreciated. I’m trying to avoid aftermarket boards. Thanks in advance.

I'm also in the market to add on some illuminated power running boards. I was at a dealer this morning and he said he couldn't find any OEM. I looked at another dealer's parts site and didn't see any there, either.

I'm okay with aftermarket but it's VERY important to me that everything on my truck look factory. This means no using the OBD port for anything and no switches drilled into my dash. I'm shopping around, but haven't found what I'm looking for so far.

Still have yet to see anyone successfully install OEM power steps. That thread ended last December on a note of failure.

AMP Research steps have half ass OBD connections and wiring according to the installation manual I read for their "extended reach" steps. Their "regular" ones appear to still be vapor ware.

Frustrating to be sure, I have wanted these since I first "ordered" my truck but these and HUD were not available with the TRD OR package apparently.

    Successfully installed, check.
    Operational, pending.
I wouldn't say it was a failure. I don't know anyone other than myself that has bought the parts in order to attempt getting them on and operational. I have them installed, just hadn't had time to work on the wiring harness.

Okay, here's where I'm at with all this...

I got lucky. The dealer closest to my home said they would install these for me. They quoted me $2,674.89 before tax. This does not include the bed step. Neither the dealership nor I could find any trace of the OEM power bed step available for sourcing.

I got a little bit of sticker shock. I asked if I sourced my own parts if they would install them for me, and I was told yes, which is what I was told last weekend, also. I looked at 7 different places, and ended up finding the best deal at oemgenuineparts.com. I guess they have a few dealers, and I ended up getting it through Midlands Toyota in South Carolina. Out the door, shipped, ended up costing me $1543.76.

The guy at Precision Toyota told me that labor's gonna cost me $762. So, if that number holds that'll cost me $2,305.76 for the upgrade (Arizona doesn't charge tax on labor). So, sourcing my own parts is going to save me $369.13. I'd say that savings is worth the time I put into shopping around. This is still a little more than I had in mind. But, I know this is going to save my seats in the long run, and my wife is having trouble getting in and out of the truck, so this should be money well spent. Also, this isn't going to look aftermarket at all, which is important to me.

My parts should be here no later than the 17th. My installation appointment is the 19th, and I was told it would be done that same day. I'll check in here and let you know how it all goes.

I'm looking forward to having this upgrade installed.

Very nice! Fingers crossed the install is smooth and no other parts or extra $ are needed. Getting mine installed at dealer, who ordered the parts for me. Total parts were $1750. He initially quoted me around $800 for install. I told him my friend in NC dealership was able to do it all parts and labor for $2200 and he said he would match it. I’ll also keep updates here.

actually, someone elsewhere (sorry to whomever posted that I can't recall your name to give you proper credit) had already compiled a parts list. When I had the parts guy from the dealer on the phone, he confirmed that this parts list is correct and complete.

I misspoke on my post yesterday when I talked about how much I saved sourcing the parts myself. I forgot to figure in the sales tax I would've paid here. So, my savings for shopping for the parts myself is $539.37. Not bad.

Twas I who originally put up the parts list. I'm very interested to see if the higher trim trucks have the wiring already in the truck. I hope y'all do. If not , you'll be in a pickle. I have all the connectors and pins. Just waiting on time. They have definitely been helpful for my shorter passengers.

Just catching up on all of this as I was suspended from my account for a week since I was trying to sell my oem power running boards. Oops, wasn't aware of that. Anyway, still have them sitting in the garage until someone can figure out the harness problem and wants to buy them.

I hope they wouldn't set me up with this if it weren't possible. But, one never know...a week from today is the big day. I'm anxious.

so in the end to add this afterwards is costing about $950 over oem cost if you had it installed at the factory. think fio cost is $1350 and that includes the powered bed step

When I placed the order initially, I was told my order would be here no later than the 17th. Well, that hasn't happened yet. Last I heard, Midlands was still waiting for the parts to get from a warehouse to them so they could ship it to me. No word why it couldn't just be sent directly from the warehouse to me, but whatever. Though this shipping delay is annoying, it's worth it to save >$500 on the parts I guess.

This may be true. However, my budget wouldn't allow for me to purchase a new Platinum so I had to settle for a slightly used one. With used, you get what you get. Had I custom ordered I would've got a real color like blue or red rather than gray. Compromises had to be made.
