    Q1: Any Rub?
    • Yes, there was rub on the skid plate which I cut back with an angle grinder. The CB Bumper shims gave the front a decent amount of clearance then I trimmed/pushed back the fender liner for another inch or so. No rub at all in 2wd no matter how hard I push it.
    • Originally thought I could get away with no BMC until I put it in 4Lo and took her in some mud. In 4lo I get pretty major rub on the body/cab mount and will be able to clear that with a basic CMC. I will be doing this myself very soon.

***HUGE thanks to Ralph at Tires & Wheels Direct out in Florida for getting my wheels out to the islands for CHEAP!! Reach out to this dude if you ever need wheels/tires. Great prices and can get them to Hawaii without killing the wallet.

ROUND 1: 11/27 - Just brought home my 2019 Tundra TRD Sport 4x4 MGM with 14500 miles. Got a killer deal for a trade-in for my cheap-mod Tacoma and could not refuse. Also need the space for kiddo #3 coming in June 21.

    Here are the first pics:

FIRST QUICK MODS: DOG SETUP / REMOVED BED STICKERS / AVS IN-CHANNEL INSTALLED

First things first, I threw in some free-99 custom cut astroturf (neighbor owns a turf company) and the BUSHWACKER dog t-harness. Love this little setup for Charlie, the family golden. There are no roads over 55 here on Maui so it's as safe as it can be.

Also removed the bed stickers then installed some AVS In-Channel rain guards. I love the look of them and they do wonders for keeping some fresh air when it's raining (pretty much always here).

ROUND 2: (First week with the new Tundra) SMOKE CENTER BRAKE LAMP / CUSTOM-MADE AMMO CAN STORAGE / INSTALL OLD WATER PORT SETUP

Sanded down and sprayed the center brake lamp cover with "Night Shades" - 2 coats. Looks darker in the picture than it does in person.

Drilled a couple holes in an old Ammo Can and fastened to the bed rail using some old t-nuts that I used on my Tacoma. Plan on adding a lock by modding it a bit more. Will do for surfboard straps and leashes for now.

8 year old Water Port still going strong. A dog and 2 kids living next to the beach, we use this thing almost daily.

ROUND 3: 12/6/20 - (Now have everything ordered and waiting for my suspension components to arrive on Maui) PAINT TOW HOOKS (RED) - No longer my license plate so don't worry about that

For the tow hooks, I blasted them with a pressure washer then an air compressor, sprayed 1 coat of a strong primer then 2 coats of TRD Red matched paint from dupli-color. Came out clean. Sorry I did not take photos of the process, I did this between playing baseball with my son and taking the dog for a walk.

ROUND 4: 12/28/20 THE REAL STUFF HAS NOW ALL ARRIVED

I did all of this with hand tools and on jack stands in my driveway. Let me know if you have any questions on doing it that way. Took about 8 hours total and there were a few brain fart moments that I had that would have cut some time. All in all, it went very well.

Got confirmation that my wheels arrived in port here on Maui so mount/balance/alignment would be next.

ROUND 5: Wheels finally came in to port after nearly a month wait and searching around for the best price to get them here to the islands. Decided on Method NV305 because of the +25 offset and I really wanted a nice Bronze wheel.

Ordered my BFG KO2 through my local connect at Maui Off-road and they set me up with a killer price to have them mounted/balanced/aligned.

    WHEELS / TIRES / ALIGNMENT
(I did not like the alignment that was first given so I am not going to provide any numbers yet. I will be getting aligned again in the next week or two and will provide the numbers then.)

ROUND 6: TRIMMING, TRIMMING and more TRIMMING

After driving around and hopping curbs and slamming into u-turns in forward and reverse to test the rub, I took note of a few things:

    1. No chance in hell that I was going to be able to leave the flaps. Removed both front and rear (on front fender). I plan on trying to chop down the original flap to make it fit but I just don't see that being possible. May have to run some modified RokBlokz? LMK if you've done this before with 35s.

    2. Major rub on the skid plate. Was definitely expecting this. Thought I could just bend it back but decided to make some sparks fly and chopped it back. I plan on replacing it with an aftermarket plate eventually so no rush to make it look fantastic. The brown you see is the clay dirt behind my house, definitely not rusting already. Ive also since fixed the brackets on my sway bar. This photo made me realize that I left the little crown part out when adding the relocation brackets.

    3. Very minimal rub on the front fender liner due to the CB Bumper Shims that I installed when doing my suspension setup. Decided to go ahead and do the chop/push back on the plastic anyways which seemed to give me an extra inch for good measure. Found that write-up/template on the forum here somewhere. May need to clear a bit more out after re-alignment.

    3. BMC. Will I need it? At first, in 2wd, I thought "No, I think I actually got away with this!" but then I took it out to the trails and threw her into 4lo. Suddenly, rub a dub dub, the cab mount is being scraped at 3/4 turn and easily rubs when taking on divots. BMC is DEFINITELY in the future and I may be doing it myself with the help of my neighbor (the turf guy) being a mediocre metal work hobbyist as well. Will take pics of that project for sure.

Question on your rubbing... I’m confused what caused the rubbing in 4lo? Just the build up of mud in the terrain you were on? Or something in you 4lo? 4lo doesn’t give you extra turning capability? I’m looking at a similar set up as you and was curious?

I am not 100% sure of the cause but I was in some deep, slippery mud and rutted out terrain when it rubbed the most. Im no mechanic but I think it has something to do with the amount of torque you're getting to your front wheels compared to in 2WD. The tire just seems to sit closer to the corner that needs chopping when in 4LO.

Nothing major and a chop is almost guaranteed to be needed with 35's. I tried my best to avoid it but in the end, it's fully necessary.

I also plan on going 37's with the next set.

Couldn't BMC over the weekend due to rain as always on West Maui. Maybe this week sometime.

In the meantime, Installed my Pedal Commander EBAY purchase and an Amazon Light Bar setup.

I barely used the LB on my Tacoma so I didn't feel the need for anything expensive like last time. Went with the following poor-man's setup which works great:

CaliRaised LED Hidden Front Bumper Brackets (Wow, the instruction video to install was AWFUL)
Amazon Cheap Single-Row Light Bar (Seems as bright as my old CaliraisedLED Bar)
NiLight Wiring Harness (Has a second plug-in spot if I want to add another bumper light)
LED Light Bar Switch (The only piece I wish was a bit better quality. Doesn't quite exact-match the fit of the other switches but still works well)
    Total: $140

I also painted my dash trim and steering wheel trim with some good ol' SEM Trim Paint (Satin Black). Came out great except for one corner had just a touch of over-spray. Happens to be right where my cell-phone mount goes so no complaints.
