2023 Tundra. Having issues changing my oil with an oil evacuator. Anyone on the forum use an oil evacuator through the dip stick tube to remove the oil oil ? This is typically how I change me oil. Seem that only half of the oil comes out yet the small diameter hose seems to be at the bottom of the pan. Toyota does seem to have a two piece oil pan but can understand why I can't seem to get to the bottom of the oil pan via the dipstick. Any insight on this ? Thank you in advance Kid

You might be hitting something like a windage tray that sits inside the oil pan and keeps oil from sloshing upwards. I am not too sure if these engines have one but that is a possibility.

I just did my oil change the old fashioned way and I tried it without taking off my RCI plates. It did make a mess at both the drain plug and the filter. I am going to get a fumoto valve and some hoses to help for the next change.

I have the RCI, you'll be very happy with the fumoto (or other) valve and hose. And a hose from the oil filter "drip catch".

I changed mine with my Evacuator. I don't remember having any issues. I used the smallest hose and just twisted it around until it got to the bottom of the pan (Measured the Oil coming out also I'm fairly confident I got most of it).

Peter, I just bought the same valve as well. I have the 2023 1794 edition which has a plastic and softer skid plate. I'm able to remove the bolt on one side and pull it back enough to get to the filter. Would prefer the to use my evacuator but it is getting hung up inside the pan. Hoping someone og here will have a solution.

I took my little plastic engine plate off and put the full set of RCI aluminum plates and cat guards on. They are a bit of a pain to take off. The fumoto and a little hose will make it much cleaner. I picked up a bunch of filters at the local dealership so I have extra. It was tight but not too hard to get the little filter off. Just need the hose to extend the little spill catcher down past the engine plate.

The Fumoto makes it a breeze. To each his own, but it seems like an oil evacuator getting oil on the exterior of a long hose and tring to fish down to the right spot would end up actually being more of a PITA on this Tundra. For the filter, I have some disposable water bottle that fits great over the hole. Just let it fill and pull out and drain.

For many cars with a remote filter using an oil evacuator would make a lot of sense. The 2nd Gen Tacoma would be a great example (where I also used the old water bottle trick to drain the filter).

Have you referenced against the dipstick how far that tubing is going? The tubing can lack the rigidity especially when the motor is hot. What I've done with oil changes from the top where you don't know if you're at the bottom of the pan is to use a clean and lubricated fish tape. Mark against the dipstick and GENTLY slide it down the dipstick tube. You'll feel and hear it hit the bottom. Mark your tubing against that and vacuum away. Stating the obvious, don't force it unless you know for certain you're not going to hit a pick up or windage tray.

That said, it's not really a vehicle that is set up to use extractors like a Benz or BMW where the filter is on the top and the dipstick is easy to use with an extractor. You still have to be underneath it- lower the air dam, pull the plate, 5/8" tube on the filter drain and replace the filter. The drain plug is accessible. Maybe 5 minutes underneath.

I am in the category of users who prefer the fumoto valve. Yep I have the RCI skidplate too.
Easy oil change and I like to get the oil nice and warm to get the contaminates suspended in the oil into that drain pan.

You can drive across the country and back then change it. For me warm enough is maybe a minute or two.
Otherwise if I had to make a run to Home Depot or Lowes, I would do it and then change the oil when I got back home.
Putting the fumoto on and using a hose saves my hands from being cooked with hot oil.

The filter is the only area than can still get you with hot oil. Disposable gloves and some paper towels help.
I also connect a hose on the catch under the oil filter. Loosen it up slowly and let some of that oil get drained.

Someone mentioned using an old water bottle to help catch things. Have to experiment with that one next time.

BTW just in case Toyota claims I never changed the oil, I do take pictures of the work about to be done and keep records in a excel spreadsheet.

Great tool for Blackstone or standard oil analysis sample bottles. I always toss the used tubing and use a new piece for each sample.

Really good point. It is far too exposed without a plate IMO. I won't use one on my 1794 with the faux plate for that reason. Plus, this is a very easy drain plug to access.

yep, I use it for samples mid OCI. The tubing is a bit annoying because it does tend to curl up but its cheap enough to toss after a use.
