    What’s with this check valve?
In the center, came with a cover and gasket- in the other baggie. BE664B60-E6E2-4995-93D2-1472C89D377D.jpg Don’t see why you have a check valve when it’s covered??..

That allows you to drain the oil from the filter when you do an oil change. That way you aren’t dropping your filter and housing full of oil.

    not a check valve.

oil canister drain plug. This way you can drain the housing before cracking it open without it being a giant mess…

motiv-x is a popular option that threads into the housing and has a drain tube with flow control.

So without any special tools you just stick a screwdriver in there or what?

Most filters come with a little plastic piece for you to put in there and drain it out.

No.....a new filter comes with a plastic piece that you push in to drain it which is messy. If you want a clean oil change, get the drain hose setup as mentioned. Many of us also have Fumoto oil pan drain valves.
