Oil Filter question

    Can anyone that has changed their filter take a look at this. Filter on the left is what was taken off. One on the right is what the dealer gave me. Parts Dept used my VIN to look up. Seems odd. TIA.IMG_4508.jpgIMG_4509.jpg

    Your new one is correct.


    I let the dealer do my first oil so I can’t confirm if your old filter was used on early production runs. Either way you’re set now

    one on the right is the one they come with from the plant - the one on the left is the revised one - looks like they changed your oil / filter somewhere along the line and used the revised / superseded part. Original made in Japan - revise one somewhere else

    Dealer here also gives YZZF1s. I have used them and they fit and work same as the other one. Went through this question awhile back in another thread and cut some open and they were very similar. The ZZ1s are just a few mm taller. I have a few of each type and will use them interchangeably. They both take the same cap wrench.

    The F1 is the very common filter. Toyota came out with the 90915-10010 filter just for the V35A application, which is very un-toyota like. I wonder if the V35A part has different bypass PSI or flow specs. I'd be personally very nervous about using F1 because if F1 worked toyota would not have came up with a completely different part for the V35A only.

    I had read through the earlier thread discussing YZZF1 vs 10010, so on my 1,000 mile oil change I was paying attention. Local dealer sold me a 10010. Also, 10010 was what I removed from the truck, and was what they installed at the factory. April 2023 build date.

    I faced this issue when I did my first oil change (well getting the parts for it)

    In the end I stuck to whatever the factory sent with the truck.
    90915-10010

    So now I have a case of 10 of them and will be using them for some time.

    It's interesting that the dealer wouldn't have the correct filter on hand. When I work for a parts department, a new engine release you would get a list of recommended parts to stock and some were just sent to you to have on the shelf.

    Just curious, so the Gen 3 Tundras went back to spin-on filters and went away from the cartridge filter of the Gen 2 and 2.5? I thought that spin-ons were death to the environment.

    no Mods... has new headlights and some dings on the side... just purchased a dent puller and Bilstein 5100's for it..... absolutely love it in the 2 weeks I've owned it...
    In my opinion the shorter the filter with less volume would be easier to push fluid through as long as filter is changed regularly!! Less vertical height! Regular changes absolutely necessary to avoid restriction! I put the wrong filter on about 350 miles ago (YDZZ1) when I should of gone (YDZZ3) for a UZ2 motor, I didn't get a red flag because it was the same size as the filter I replaced. My oil pressure on dash has shown exceeding pressure on an engine with 230K.... I drive Semi's for a living and always look at oil pressure.
    Probably the only difference in the two profiles is a slight volume of oil at change intervals and distance to supply top of motor by a few millimeters! But Toyo filters are designed to keep supply line filled for start ups... thus longevity!!

    Anyone out there reading this? and I'm wrong on any detail? please chime in!! love learning! and will entertain new thoughts/ideas!
