IMG_1466.jpgHey guys, if you saw this oil in this location, where would you suspect it is coming from? Thanks in advance.
It seems to be “leaking” or “seeping” and or burning oil because after one month of topping off oil, I have lost some oil again. It’s not a full quart but close. Still within range on dipstick but not maintaining full level.

Cam towers are known to leak. If those are not the culprit, then timing cover.

Either one of these leaks present with issues that immediately need addressing?

    Not really.
I would keep an eye out for oil getting on the serpentine belt, as that will shorten the service life of the belt.

Yup - nothing like a slow oil leak to soften up hoses and belts (think AC hoses too). If there is an AC or power steering hose getting oil - clean it and put another slightly larger hose over it (secured) to protect it until a repair is possible.

That looks to be a bolt on the fluid coupling bracket, that the fan clutch mounts to. Here’s a pic of mine (no oil leak):
    IMG_3828.jpg

Here’s another pic of that bolt on a repair job:
    IMG_3836.jpg
Here’s the bracket( it’s connected to the timing belt cover )
    IMG_3837.jpg
Here’s a video of a mechanic fixing a crankshaft oil seal leak (that could be your problem):
    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5JXsgXhYZPE

That bolt would be #6 in this diagram, I think :
    IMG_3842.jpg

That’s my best guess, but I’m not a mechanic! Good luck

I have the same thing OP does. I hope I can fix it before it gets cold. I'm fucking broke on top of this

I am really impressed with Toyota's Yugoslavian quality as of late. I am also really sarcastic as of now.

Add me to the list. Mine is leaking in the same general area. I’m losing oil on the dipstick, up to 1.5 quarts over 5000 miles. But nothing is dripping on the ground.

Might be worth pulling the fan/shroud to get a better look..not much room down there…you’ve got low miles, and might be worth 1-2$K fix if your gonna keep her…or just buy oil..,these kinda leaks don’t seem to be catastrophic

I am having my leak assessed by a reliable mechanic in November. Will report here. Thx for the replies. Any and all theories welcomed so I can tell them what I think it is before they even look at it.

That's especially funny to me cuz I'm a guy who almost bought a Yugo back in 1988. LOL

The same company (Zastava) made great AK47's. Cars ... no so much.

Have you found the source of this leak OP? I've spent hours with a mechanic's mirror and flashlight from every angle imaginable trying to solve this. Short of removing parts, I have given up on mine for now.

Sorry, just seeing this. I have not had it looked at yet. It’s happening in November.

So they just called from the shop. $115 to do the oil leak diagnosis and what they found was that the cam towers are leaking. He said it was so small that he would not recommend any action at this time. He said the cost of the repair and the labor would be prohibitive for such a small leak. He basically said keep an eye on it and if it gets worse to the point of actually dripping on the ground that we should then do something. I certainly don’t want to pollute oil. They would have to spend about 16 hours to repair the leak and the cost would be near or beyond $5000! F that!

I also told Toyota that they should be ashamed for not addressing this problem properly and that my next truck will not be a Toyota unless they fix my leak LOL.

Thanks for responding @Boodles07 . I'm not exactly impressed either. Like you said though, for 5000, fuck that.

They are currently putting full long block motors in over 100k trucks. You think their worried about a little leak that doesn't drip on the ground on a 8 year old truck?

Good luck with another truck. I only have a tundra because I'm tired of other brands reliability. Blown motors at 7 months. Failed transmission at 3 months. Windows falling out door at 3 weeks, ect. Ect.

They should care. It's their reputation. lol  of course they don't. Tundra owners are not even a sliver on their pie chart.

The point is that it’s a known issue. They had years and years to fix a known issue and didn’t? That’s just weird and wrong. They should care and address the problem. I’ve had many cars with this many miles. My Honda Element never leaked oil and we had that puppy up to around 187,000 miles.

Sooooo, your next truck will be a Ridgeline?

Investigation Launched over Reports of Failures in up to 1.4M Honda Cars

Or maybe not? There is no perfect car/truck. I'd say the Tundra and it's seeping (that seems to have little to no impact on reliability) is pretty good. Don't lose to much sleep over this.

    Well the new engines i
    Onnew Tundras are bowing up.
It's a tiny/ small leak for the few that have it. What do you want them to do? A 100year 1,000,000 miles warranty on all seals?

I like that shop / mechanic. Being honest that it isn’t a big deal and just to monitor it is honest advice. They could have taken you to the cleaners with a repair estimate and telling you that it had to be done or risk catastrophic engine failure…..

That said, is losing almost a quart between oil changes not something to be worried about? Is it as easy as just monitoring and replacing lost oil in this case or is it just delaying a potentially massive repair?

Is it losing a quart because of the minor leak?

Not sure; it isn't my truck. That's where my question was leading......could that "small leak" cause a quart difference between oil changes??? @Boodles07.....
