So at lunch today the oil light (the actual oil can looking one) popped up. I read through the owners manual and it says that when this light comes on it means low oil pressure, however, it said for models without a pressure gauge. I have the pressure gauge and it shows everything as normal. I couldn't find anything in the manual about what this light means when you DO have the pressure gauge. Is this just the oil change reminder light? or is it a low oil level light, or is it really a low oil pressure light? 2008 SR5 5.7

Is it safe to say you have checked the oil level?

Im looking at the manual also and havent found anything specific yet about the light indicator either yet.

"Stop and check" is what it means. Page 197.

Not much but it doesnt sound catastrophe.

    Edit: more on page 201.

I haven't checked it yet, I just got back from lunch about 20 mins ago. I'll let it sit for a bit and then check it. I saw that "stop & check" also, that's what makes me think that it's a low oil light, not a low pressure light that it says in the book.

I’m not positive but I don’t think there is a low level sensor.

The gauge represents "pressure". The light means "oil level". Thats what it seems like to me atleast.

On page 611 it says the light indicates low oil pressure in vehicles without a tach. But it says the light will come on (I'm assuming in vehicles with a tach) to indicate extremely low oil level. Low oil would cause low oil pressure. I'd check the dipstick and see where it's at.

FOR SURE check oil level, and top off if needed. Does the engine sound unusually noisy? Hope not. Have someone scan for any fault codes.

I checked oil level and it looks good. Not making any unusual noises. I'm going to take it in to get the oil changed (it's about time anyways) and see if it helps.

Oil change won’t change anything if level is already good. I assume the warning light is still on, if so, get it scanned for fault codes. Some auto parts stores have scanners and will do it at no charge. You may have a faulty sensor, and there’s no real mechanical issue with the engine internally. Hope that’s the case. Good luck.

So I know this is an old thread, but the ORANGE oil can light under the “H” side of your pressure gauge is actually just there to identify the gauge and is always illuminated. Look at the gas, running temp & transmission temp gauges and you will see that these are all just gauge identifiers, not warning lights. If you did not have a gauge and your oil pressure was low, a RED oil can light would appear, but this red light doesn’t exist on models with the pressure gauge.

    Hope this makes sense.
