Quick question. Had my 23 Limited for a few weeks now and when the engine does it stop/start at stop lights and such sometimes the oil pressure drops to 0 and others it stays at pressure. Seems odd to me. When it drops to 0 it slowly loses pressure and goes to 0 over multiple seconds. Of course when it starts pressure raises to normal. Other times it stops but pressure stays. What does yours do?

it’s normal since your ICE isn’t technically on.

Doesnt surprise me that if the engine stops the pressure goes to 0, it might “hold” some pressure depending on location/orientation of parts along the path to the oil pressure sending unit, but makes sense that pressure would/could bleed down rather fast. Nothing to be alarmed about, no pressure from pump, pressure gauge reads no/low pressure.

The auto stop/start feature is perhaps the worst, ill-conceived, and potentially damaging feature they've ever put on a vehicle.

You should turn that stop start thing off IMO.

My wife's Honda Ridgeline has the auto stop/start feature and it had a recall on it to change how often it would shut off because the dealership said they were going through starters like crazy. Turning mine off is the first thing I do after starting it.

Ya I just thought it was odd sometimes it went to 0 and sometimes it held pressure. Just wanted to make sure it matched what others were doing.

I've never seen it hold pressure during auto stop, but it does take a couple second for the gauge to read 0, my theory is that the gauge cluster displaying an average oil pressure over the last few seconds, and not necessarily the actual instantaneous reading (sort of like how the gas gauge works), I could be wrong though.

    Nitrogen filled tires!

^^^ This. Turn off the auto start/stop...every time ....problem solved. What you saw is normal otherwise.

I actually never turn mine off, and auto stop does not kick in 99% of the time, and I drive through city traffic lights all day long.

Am I light on the brake then?

it’s either that or your climate control settings.

Or battery charging. Set the auto stop to display messages to know what it's doing. Even when I deliberately use auto shut off at a long stop light, engine will many times only stay off for 15 or 20 seconds - even with climate control off and no lights on. Mine always says "battery charging." I wish it was more consistent. I don't hate the system when I am stuck at a light for 2 minutes, but it seems futile if the shut off is so short.

I've read that up to 75% of the wear on an engine, over its lifetime, occurs at startup when all the internals begin moving but the oil isn't pumping yet.

So, what do the auto engineers do? They add a feature that causes the engine to stop and start dozens of times over the course of a short city drive. Brilliant.

Talk about planned obsolescence at its finest.
