I currently have BF Goodyear Adventures 275 55R20s stamped Kevlar. I drive mostly on paved roads and an occasional gravel road. Mostly concrete in town. Though equipped with the tow package I have never towed anything. I recently pick up a nail in the right rear. I went into the dealership because of the low pressure light. I was told my tires are too old and I must have bought the truck used. I bought it new off that lot in the Spring of 2018. Then I am told the tires on the truck are dated 2015 and showing signs of dry rot. Dry rot? They won't plug the tire. Now I am getting a little irritated. What happened to new trucks come with new tires? I have been a long time customer at that dealership and bought a number of Toyota vehicles. The truck is always serviced at that dealership every 3,000 miles. Oh, this Tundra currently only has 20,000 miles on it. My tires now need to be replaced because the tires are too old? I have a lot of tread left on those tires. So, I took it to Firestone just down the street for a second opinion. Tires older than five years old need to be replaced according to them and they won't plug the tire. I went back to talk to the Sales Manager at the dealership hoping they would make some concession/discount for selling me a new 2018 truck with tires that were already 3 years old. He went to the GM who said "tough luck." So, I am going to have to get new tires. I am not loyal to buying from Toyota. What would be a good all season tire in 275 55R20 size that will ride comfortable and quiet?

What gets me is my wife is driving a 2013 Rav4 with the original tires on it at 30K miles. Every time I take it in I asked about the tires. The same dealership says those tires are fine. Doesn't make sense to me. So, I wonder if the Goodyear brand tires have an issue?

Those don’t sound like original tires that Toyota offered. Maybe take some pics that show the wheels and tires and the date code?

I got out the original window sticker. It does show that the dealer swapped out the factory steel wheels and tires for 20" aluminum wheels and tires. Yes, those BF Goodyear Wrangler AT Adventurers came on it from the dealer on the new car lot. What I did learn is Goodyear has a warranty on those tires for 60K miles. I called over to my local Goodyear store. The manager said to bring it in so he could look at it. After he took a look at my tires and he said there are a few weather cracks, very little wear and no dry rot. Then he said he thinks the Toyota dealership is giving me the run around, just days before they have their tire sale which started October 1st. The buy three and get the fourth tire fir $1? The Goodyear manager said to bring it by in the morning and he will have the leaky tire plugged. Toyota added air to it last Thursday. The low tire pressure light has not come back on as of yet. So,I will take it in tomorrow morning. On another note, I found the Toyota Tire Center online. It prompts you to select your year model and body style etc. It came up with only two options which were 18" tires. No option to enter what the truck came with. I have attached a picture of the truck.

I’ve never seen that wheel. Actually I have never that tire, I mean I have never seen that wheel and tire combo from the factory.

Maybe the original owner had them installed upon purchase and the dealer tried to be slick stating upgraded OEM wheels/tires for the carfox’s sake

..but that definitely not a factory wheel and tire combo.

Hopefully you end up with a good replacement.

End of the day have a look at the door and see when actually built, I wouldn’t doubt they are past the 5 year mark. Some “OEM” tires are Port installed options so they may have swapped them out w the 20” wheels in whatever package they come with. Still sucks, I would just plug it myself and roll, or drag it down to a used tire place and they would do it 20 bucks is 20 bucks.
For a replacement I would look at Michelin Defender series a bit pricier but good quality

You see those wheels here in NW Louisiana. There is a package name for that combo. Truck Sport Special Edition package. Came equipped with the wheels, tires and side steps, chrome letters in the tailgate. This dealership was known for their own lifted Tundras called Outlaws. The dealership adjusted the collision sensors in the grill for their lifted trucks.

Did you confirm the tires are 2015 date code? It’s stamped on the sidewall.

Yes, the manager at the Goodyear store confirmed the 2015 date code. Shook his head. He said in 2018 those may have been NOS sitting on a shelf when they put the 20" wheels on it. Someone just grabbed the tires to go with the wheels.

In the original post I said my wife drives a RAV4. When it comes to road trips she wants to go in the Tundra because it rides so much better.

Michelin Defender LTX M/S has been the standard for a comfortable, quiet, and long-lasting tire for a long time. Affordable maybe; they’re a lot cheaper than oversized, name-brand all terrains. They’re also significantly more than the bargain options from the various Asian made brands.

    Curse you Perry the Platypus!
I've gone with what the TRD PRO models use and have been very happy. Last set was Michelin LTX A/T 2 and I'm now running Falken Wildpeak AT3. No complaints about either set.

Last Thursday at the dealership it was down to 24 pounds and it was aired up at that time. The low tire sensor had not come back on as of this morning. I got the tire plugged at the Goodyear store this AM. The manager came to hand me the tiniest sliver of metal. He said it had barely punctured the tire. He took the tire off the rim and he couldn't see it inside the tire. He had to feel for it. It wasn't a nail. Also, there was no charge for the repair. Anyway problem is resolved for now.

Only Outlaw trucks can have a 6" lift with either 20" or 22" wheels

So the dealership sold you a brand new truck with 3 year old tires. Then wouldn’t plug the leak because the tires THEY put on are now too old. I don’t think I’d let that one slide.

I'd probably plug it myself. It is difficult business for flimsy-muscled male (or female), but doable.

    Screenshot_20231004-131320_Brave.jpg

As far as new tires for mostly road/highway use with occasional gravel, anything at Sam's club that's in the lower end price or on sale should work just fine. I never had issues with tire being "uncapable", except when you get stuck somewhere. Then its down to traction and/or skill.

There are so many tires out there it's overwhelming, just pick something you like and it doesn't break the bank.

This post is 100% correct. These Michelin's are great tires that ride smooth and quiet. Also very good in bad weather. Definitely worth the money. I'm just sorry that your dealer doesn't value repeat customers.
