OME BP51 or Fox TRD Pro

    Looking at lift with better overall ride quality and think I have settled between OME BP51 bypass or the Fox TRD Pro setups.

    What would you pick and why?

    What are your goals with a lift and how will you be using the truck? Street, tow, mild fire roads or heavy off road use? Running around loaded with 500lbs of gear or usually empty. Plan on adding heavy bumpers, winch?

    Those lifts are very different. Pro setup is nice and rides well, but is coilovers and rear shocks, does nothing to the rear. It levels the truck. If you haul/tow, you will be sitting nose high, which is easily remedied, but those solutions add cost.

    OME is full suspension and the BP kit included rear leafs, or maybe they are an option. Ive run OME on a few vehicles. They generally run a bit higher than advertised, so a 2.5 lift will be 2.75 or closer to 3. OME has different springs, light, med, heavy, depending on your use and load. Their rear leafs can make noise, lube before installing. But they have good products and Ive never had an issue with their stuff. Have been running the light suspension on a 4th gen 4runner for 6 years and 80k miles and it rides like new.

    Really need to know more about your needs and use to make a recommendation.

    Mainly city and highway driving. Want to run over speed bumps, potholes, concrete transition and curbs with barely noticing.

    Do tow a couple times a year but nothing crazy. Dad has large ranch in Oklahoma and want to be able to take the truck around the entire property.

    Would probably add shackles in rear or AAL, but not sure. Like the rake but gonna try level first to see if I like it before lifting rear for rake.

    Then the OME will be overkill for your use. It is robust, even the light duty springs are about 10% heavier than stock. Firmer ride, good for off road and loaded overlanding. Will likely need UCA due to the height approaching 3 inch of lift so that add cost.

    TRD suspension is nice, but you will feel bumps, curbs. No need for UCA and easy alignment. Really any of the 2-3 inch lift coilovers are going to have you feel all that stuff. It is not until you move to a high dollar long travel suspension that you get the kind of performance where you can rip a curb or even steps and not really feel too much. Great for a race truck, not so much a daily driver and the cost is huge.

    Concur on shackles for the rear vs aal. You may also want to check out RAS (activesuspension.com). Gains you an inch lift, no harsh ride like aal, and will give extra support for hauling and towing with less sag.

    Not sure what the price difference b/t the two setups runs…but I’ve been very pleased with the TRD Pro Fox; they are specifically calibrated for our trucks and when I called Fox to ask between their aftermarket or just ordering from Toyota, they actually said the TRD version was very well co-engineered and to go that route if pricing was similar. I added the Westcott Designs lift at the same time when I had them installed. Much better than the 5100’s they replaced.

    Also noticed you have a 1794…not sure if you are still on stock 20’s/tires, but going to a tire with more sidewall makes almost as much difference in ride quality…or if you’re planning to do both, it will be the best combined ride quality to maximize whatever suspension setup you decide on

    When in same price point, dont think overkill matters. If it is the superior product and more likely to last longer than its worth it.

    Thinking the Fox TRD may be better for on and off road use overall but notice the OME BP51 in same price range and reading lots of positive reviews.

    I was in the same situation trying to decide between those two kits. Ultimately I stuck with OEM (not OME;)), and I don’t have any complaints.

    One thing to note about shackles: they don’t really add any weight-bearing capability to your truck. It just means that when you’re loaded down enough to squat, your leaf springs will be inverted past flat. If you don’t carry enough weight to do that under whatever driving conditions you’re in, no worries.

    I love the ride and the travel of the Pro suspension, but I want more functional rake. So I’m getting rid of my air bags and adding RAS and Duro Bumps.

    2018 Platinum here, recently did the full TRD Pro setup and I love it. Truck rides smoother for sure and no more slowing down for pot holes and pretty much any roadway defect. Added a coach builder 1/4 shim to each coil over for a total of 2.5" of front lift. Also added the toytec rear shackle at 1" setting so it gave me about 1.5 in the rear. Truck rides like a dream.     TRD Pro Fox, CB shims in front and +3 Shackles in rear. For a 3/1.75” lift. Rides really nice on street, freeway and highway for a truck.
