There are known issues with the super white paint lately ...there is a remedy from Toyota. Other members here will chime in that have this similar problem. In some cases the paint/base coat is peeling away. Didn't bond properly. Do you have pics of your issue??

    Pics will help.

Some orange peel texture is to be expected in mass produced vehicles. I had to have my driver side bed repainted, and the best shop in town- a hot rod and custom shop- had to work to match the slight orange peel on the rest of the truck.

From what I can tell from the other thread, the recall issue is this:

The trucks are readied for paint by some kind of electroplating to prevent rust. Then, I believe the coat of chip guard is applied to the rocker panels. Over that, the primer, then base coat, then clear coat. On recall vehicles, the full thickness of the finish-over-metal is pulling free of the body.

I might be wrong, but I was under the impression that orange peel occurs when the metal is colder than it should be when paint is applied and that it wasn't something that developed over time. The problem with white trucks is that paint imperfections aren't as noticeable vs dark trucks.

Whatever paint they use, it isn't very durable.

True orange peel results from the spray pattern of the nozzle. Environmental pressure has forced the change to HVLP spray guns with coarse atomization compared to the old lacquer guns, in order to reduce solvent flash into the atmosphere. Consequently, orange peel is more prevalent on new production vehicles than ever before.

Attempting to paint cold metal could result in orange peel because the cold substrate increases the viscosity of the material, and keeps the paint from "flowing out". Leaving a vehicle outdoors, and painting immediately after bringing it in is bad for many reasons. To paint a vehicle early in the morning, it should stay in the booth overnight, with the final wipedown immediately before spraying.

More importantly, the painter has to use a reducer that is suitable for the spraying temperature. If the metal is going to be cold (but above recommended minimum), a "slow" reducer, i.e. a grade of thinner with more resistance to evaporation, must be used to provide more time for the paint to level, or "flow out".

In this instance, I'm not sure how it can be due to the spray pattern if it was initially free of orange peel. I can understand how roughness that occurs years later might be described as "orange peel", but it is actually caused by another mechanism.

The finish comes off the line with orange peel. It was the 1st thing I noticed working in the paint shop. Are you sure that you're only now noticing it? Artificial light shows it up. Orange peel doesn't just start happening.

There is a process called anti chip that is performed on the 1st step going into the primer booth on the bottom of the sides. It appears there may have been an issue with this. The folks in the paint department are just vaguely aware of the issue but there have been no process changes. I'm betting on a bad batch from the vendor. Somehow water was getting under it next to the ED coat
