Tundra Totaled.jpg I am happy to be alive to join this forum. Two weeks ago, I totaled my 2007 Tundra (see picture) doing 87mph on cruise control (in an 80mph speed zone) and I am still in great pain. The airbags did not deploy, my insurance company says I should take it up with Toyota. Humph.... I thought maybe some kindered sole in this forum could help me get past the bureaucrats at Toyota (wherever they are) and help me find out what I should do before they sell my Tundra for scrap (it was written off as a total loss). Any help would be so much appreciated. Thx Aggie78

Most importantly you are ok. Looks like the truck took a big hit. I'm sure someone will chime in with a contact, or best way to handle the situation.

Oh man, glad you're alive, that looks like a helluva hit. :(

Honestly, and I know this is a Tundra forum, but your best bet might be to lawyer up. Any company is going to give you the run around, it's in their immediate best interest to do so (brush you off hoping you go away).

Wow! Glad you are ok! I would definitely contact a lawyer if using the above link doesn't work. Dealing with big companies....they like to push off the "little guys".

Unless you are really hurt and have high medical bills that need addressed I would not waste the time and money on a lawyer.
What exactly do you expect Toyota to do for you?

Glad youre okay my friend.. first thing you do it speak to a lawyer. Not Toyota.. you let the lawyer know what happened and then go from his advise.. I've been down that road..

When dealing with this type of issue, no lawyer is going to charge you $$ upfront.. they'll let you know what's up and if you have a case .if you have a case, they'll be paid on the back end.. don't worry about $$$ to pay right now. Speak to a lawyer

Just talking to a lawyer to see if he has a case shouldn't cost anything. Most lawyers will give the first "consult" for free and a good one will tell you ALL your options. And if you choose to get a lawyer most will make the company you sue pay their fees. There are some out there that won't even make you pay if they lose the case too (not sure how many do this, but i know they are out there).

I would think that a safety feature like airbags shouldn't just not work because of age....i could be wrong though.

I am actually in the car industry (wholesale cars through KBB) and I am not exactly sure either. You could be right. A safety future like that, no matter how old the car is, shouldn't not just work. however it is the car industry and everyone is sketchy:rofl:

If memory serves, I think that it's recommended that the air bag be replaced at the 10 year mark and then something like every two years after that. I'd have to dig in the manual to be sure though.

I've seen a lot of wrecks in my career where it looked like the airbag SHOULD have deployed but didnt for one reason or another. I've talked to the traffic cops on the scene who have a lot of knowledge on this and they have always said that there are certain parameters that have to be met for the bags to deploy and there are thousands of factors involved. After seeing years of people burnt and injured from the air bags you might be lucky they didnt go off and you should probably consider leaving well enough alone. Also, your truck doesnt look that bad for an 80MPH crash and you must have laid down a lot of rubber or something broke the speed before you hit something very squarely. You were obviously using your seat belt which is very smart but I have to say that I would never use cruise control at 90 MPH.

Was the SRS light on prior to the crash?

    Were you braking on impact?

What did you hit/what hit you?

Are there any open recalls for your VIN? You can check for yourself on Toyota's website. I know of some late first gen Tundras having a recall for the driver's airbag inflator, not sure about '07s

Wishing you a speedy recovery, I'm slightly familiar with your situation from when my Tacoma met a similar fate last fall, though my airbag did function as expected.

Sky Silver Tundras are built the tuffest ... they don't require air bags.

On a serious note ... glad to see that you didn't suffer any serious injuries. How the air bag didn't deploy from that impact is strange and I would speak with a Lawyer for sure. Isn't there some sort of Takata air bag inflator recall ... the following article states 2003-2006 Tundras. Maybe your 2007 got part of the last patch of questionable inflators ...

yep bank account is running low from it..
Air bags must be inspected and replaced to be technical every 10 years. Just because the air bag light goes off telling you no codes doesn't mean the unit will work as planned if the units are technically out of date.

First you'd have to prove some of your injuries were directly related to airbag failure. Then they'll try to prove that you or a previous owner tampered or defeated the airbag mechanism through mods or lack of maintenance.
