Hello everyone my name is Nate. I am new to the site.
    2008 tundra 5.7L I have owner since 2011.
I can't get the P0333 code to go away or the lights on the dash to stay off.
The check engine goes on and off randomly so It is kind of hard to trouble shoot. It does go into limp mode. It wont go into 5/6 gears when the lights are on.
It all started with the P0333 code.
This is what I have done so far:
    1.replaced knock sensor B2 S2 torqued to 15lbs
    2. replaced knock sensor wiring harness
    3. 4.10-4.11 volts to the knock sensor (moved harnesses while testing incase there is something rubbing) I couldn't get the volts to drop.
    4. replaced air intake gaskets
    5. cleaned throttle body
    6. cleaned MAF sensor
    7. new air filter
    8. new tires (I thought the loud tires were tripping knock sensor)Nuts I know!
    9. 89 octane gas with seafoam
    10. reset with obd2 (erased code)
    11. Reset by disconnecting the battery
    12. checked grounds
freeze frame showed 62MPH MAF 3.7Lbs/Min

Does anyone have experience with this issue?
Tomorrow I will be checking the wiring again.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

Welcome. This doesn’t come up much in this forum. Seems to be all over the tacomas forums and maybe more at tundra solutions. Seems rodents like those wires in the Tacoma, they must prefer others in the Tundra.

Did you replace it with OEM? Did you replace both sensors or just one? I would definitely go OEM, replace both, and double check wire polarity.

I guess no one replied cause everyone is busy with the great tow hook conspiracy and driving in the snow :burp:.

    Good luck.

I use oem and toqued to spec. Also new harness. No signs of mice. I’m going to recheck polarity this week after Xmas stuff is over. The engine light is so random. It’s hard to troubleshoot when the issue isn’t happening.

So… perhaps you are experiencing actual engine knock and the sensor is doing its job. Maybe try replacing the spark plugs, then ignition coil’s, then looking more into an internal problem if those don’t fix it. While it sucks it’s intermittent, that may be good cause it’s not likely internal or would do it all the time, IMO.

Edit: could even get one plug and one coil and try putting them in one cylinder at a time and see if it goes away, then you will know which cylinder it was… assuming it’s one of those components it would be purely in the interest of science to know which cylinder is giving you grief.

Plugs are a year old but I am going to pull that side to inspect. Coils were also replaced but there could be a bad one.
I tested the original sensor again, it has continuity.

Following I have same issue wondering about the ECM. I replaced sensor, wiring harness, and spark plugs. Took it to Toyota service and they have no idea what is causing it. If I delete the code it comes back sometimes in 2 day sometimes in 5 min. Also in limp mode and dash is all lit up.

    Solved!
My code was the bank 2 sensor 2. BUT
Apparently both bank 2 sensors are on the same circuit. So replace bank 2 sensor 1 and that problem was solve. Also heat exchanger was resealed.

Coils check out on the scanner. However it could be intermittent. Plugs are new OEM. Any merit to the ecm?

Yes both bank 2 sensors are on the same circuit. Even though code was for sensor 2 it was actually 1.

I have a curveball for you. I got in my 2005 Tundra a couple of days ago, and the CEL was on. Went to AutoZone earlier today, and they showed a P0333. We went inside, and they gave me paperwork on the code. I went back out to the truck to go home, cranked the engine, and the light was off. Am I to expect the light to come back on, or is it over? By the way, my truck has 190,500 miles on the odometer.

    Thanks in advance.

Hi did the Mil comeback , if comeback maybe the transmission just get at 4 speed and not the overdrive 5 and 6 gear speed
If come back check the continuity of the sensor (knock sensor) and take out harness from sensors and check continuity
I was have a 1 sensor mal function and have problems with sensor harness too
    Now everything is work properly

The P0333 for me was a nightmare until Natebucks gave me the info in the series wiring of the sensors. Dont replace one knock sensor, replace them all.

Hello, I will start a new thread on this, P033C solved after I electrical tape the wiring harness lead into the back left knock sensor was rodent chewed, shorting, but intact. My question is how best to remove the intake manifold completely, I had a hard time getting the cluster in the back next to the firewall disconnected. I ordered an OEM Wire harness sensor - 82219-0C020 and plan on installing in near future.
