My poor truck is lit up like a Christmas tree :( Looking for opinions.

Last weekend was headed on a bit of a trip 170km to visit some friends. Driving through town 4Lo started blinking. This had happened a couple times about a year ago although it was 4hi that was blinking back then. Anyways popping it into 4hi and then back to 2wd and then throw it into park got the light to stop flashing like it did before.

Half way through the trip I stopped to get gas. After pumping and just as I was leaving the parking lot 4Lo plus all the other lights turned on. I pulled over at first thinking bad gas although now I think its just a coincidence. Checked gas cap and oil all seemed fine. Truck was running fine so I continued the rest of the way 100 km or so. No problems besides the lights.

Was messing around seeing if lights would stay off. Disconnected the battery for a min or two. The lights turned off and stayed off the whole way home.

That was Sunday so made it most of this week although I didn't drive much until today when all the same lights turned back on.

Hooked up my scan tool (blue driver) got codes:
P0705- Transmission Range Sensor "A" circuit (PRNDL Input)
C1201- some sort of anti lock brake code I believe?

Anyone deal with these before? Just tried lubing up the transmission shift lever underneath the truck. It is pretty crusty and the truck always felt like it took a second or two to get into drive.

    Appreciate any help Thanks guys.

While I was lubing the shift lever I did notice that the ground strap there is rusted/broken in two. Could that cause issues?

I checked all the fuses they were good. I was reading it could be caused by a blown reverse light fuse. I did change one rear reverse light just before winter as the old bulb had stopped working.

Should mention on the gauge cluster today the D for Drive was not lit up. All the other ones were working though.

No but I am pretty sure it has been broken since I bought the truck.

I’m pretty sure it isn’t gonna fix itself.
Someone’s nephew may have needed a job so they paid him to put on an unnecessary ground.
It’s worth grounding it with a metal coat hanger or speaker wire just to see if it cures anything.

Roger that. Bad grounds have sent a lot of people on a wild goose chase.
Your tundra is going into limp mode,
Mine did the same thing,it turned out to be a easy fix. Abs fuse blew from bad wiring on a trailer I was using.
I would fix the wire just to get it outa the search for the issues at hand.
I'm sure someone will chime in with better info and you will get'r fixed up

Hmm will try fixing the ground. I am sure it has been like that since I got it but maybe it is contributing to the issue.

Head unit, sub's , components, front / back camera's, too many lights to mention, dual battery, winch / bumper, TRS projector headlights, roof nest hard-shell, integrated backup spot lights, vault, all aluminum radiator / water pump, tailgate storage, plenty of dents and scratches
I've got it! Believe me or not what you're describing is EXACTLY what I just fixed 1 hour ago. The 7 wire tow pin connector on mine was damaged by Discount Tire folks and the larger spare tire they put up there (I suppose my fault for telling them to do it, but whatever) this usually happens because the pins and wiring internal on the connector rust / degrade over time, since I'd replaced mine recently, I'd ignored it at my own peril until today when I just decided to look at it and voila! I'll bet you a beer man, take a flashlight and just look, I betcha it's nasty!

Oh and if also like mine, you'll need to replace the fuse for the back up lamps ;)

I had that ground strap come apart in my hands last year. I went to the dealership to get a replacement and they looked at me like I was nuts and said it wasn't a factory item. Obviously the tab that's bent and placed only for that grounding strap would say otherwise!

My truck has the same strap that looks exactly the same... it's probably not the issue.

the C1201 code is basically just saying there is another code and to turn the check engine light on, ignore that one.

since that is a ground strap right near the transmission position sensor... you can try to fix it, other wise start testing the transmission range sensor to see if it's actually bad.

Update. The light turned off on its own and has stayed off since I was last posting on here. All I did was spray penetrating fluid on the shift linkages. Messed around with that ground strap a bit but didn't replace it.
