Tundra throwing P0722 code output speed sensor. I saw some threads on it but new to group and can't seem to get back to that particular one. Toyota dealer telling me I need to replace 2 sensors I'm going with probably input and the output sensor but I've only gotten codes for output sensor. Is it common to replace both? OEM is 145$ each I've used rock auto before for parts is it better to use OEM or can I purchase away from Toyota dealership. It has been throwing 4low light, check engine, traction control off and one other light when it does this sparatically. Ive noticed its shifting is off when it throws code. I know sensor is on bottom of transmission on passenger side. I have some mechanical skills not pro by any means but looking for suggestions on whether I should go OEM and do both sensors that Toyota suggested. Thanks

Welcome to the forum from OKC! No experience here with this particular code or sensor. However, others will chime in, just hang tight. You might also go to the "ask the Toyota Mechanic" thread and inquire there for a better explanation.

I'd recommend going with the OEM Parts. They are the reason why Toyota's have such great reliability.

I know the OEM is better to spend the extra because of longevity and quality. I was just on the fence when the parts guy said I'd need both sensors. I'm definitely not easy on my truck either. I'm at 155k and use it for everything from hauling tractor, cross country trips, getting it axle deep in mud and snow. Salt corrosion is pretty awful up here in the southern Tundra as I refer to it. I'm replacing rotors and brakes every spring because if corrosion. From last post to this one lights have gone off. But will randomly come back so just trying to get ahead of them going completely.
    Thanks

I would just replace the one output sensor and definitely use a Toyota part (if you're on a tight budget, consider getting a used part). You can always replace the input sensor later if you absolutely have to.

    Thanks,
The money isn't the issue if I only do the output sensor. I know they always try to give you more then you need. I just wanted opinions on whether to do both.

What did you end up doing? I have the same problem, I replaced both sensors and still having issues, I am now thinking its the wiring harness.
