Hi, looking for some help on identifying the location and correct part # of the transmission solenoid that's throwing code P0973. I'm seeing some conflicting locations/numbering on the parts descriptions, diagrams and photos. I'd like to avoid ordering multiple solenoids but want to make sure I have OEM parts on hand prior to dropping the pan and testing the solenoids. The truck is a 2007 Tundra 4x4 with 241K, the hard code showing up is P0973 the dash is lit up with a solid CEL and Traction control light, the 4LO and VSC are blinking. I cleared the code with a scan tool and/or have disconnected the battery cables to clear the code and it continues to return as soon as I put the truck drive. 4HI will engage however 4LO will not. The truck will shift/drive and is not in limp mode however the shifting is sporadic, clunky and sometimes feels like it's slipping. Prior to this event the truck ran flawlessly, the trans was serviced drained/filled not flushed at 238K dropping the pan, cleaning the magnets, new filters, gaskets and Toyota fluids.

I would recommend checking the control valves as well make sure they're not binding, it's not uncommon for a fluid service to be done and start having issues, especially transmission.. putting clean fluid with old dirty fluid can cause debris to dislodge and get into places causing problems as well..

Agreed, I have to drop the trans pan to check the solenoids so we’ll get an idea of what the fluid looks like when we drain it. I wouldn’t be surprised if the solenoids test good or bad but the culprit be junk in the valve body.

The solenoid S1 tested bad, replaced the solenoid and everything is working properly with no warning lights or stored codes.
