    Hello!

I am new to the Tundra world. Recently bought a 2006 4.7 and it's throwing these two codes. So far, the canister has been replaced, the PCV Valve, Purge Valve, and fuel filler neck vent. I am still getting these two codes, but almost never at the same time.

The truck is running great, smooth Idle, no lack of power and pretty much no symptoms of any of these individual problems. Any advice or pointers would be greatly appreciated!

    Cheers!

1st two replies in this thread are a must-read for any new owner/member, just to make sure you didn't get screwed with your sale on a rotten frame and you're aware of the 3-4 major "big killers" of our trucks: https://www.tundras.com/threads/so-you-wanna-buy-just-bought-a-1st-gen-tundra-eh.115928/

You can also download the service manual ("FSM") for your truck via links in the 1st post, which will help you look up codes and proceed with diagnostics, as Toyota intended. Additionally, you'll find some common issues, TSBs, direct code info in the 2nd reply of page 1.

The two codes you're listing are both EVAP codes, related to the emissions system. P0441 is commonly a bad gas cap, either because gas cap failed, or because it's an aftermarket cap. Stanton brand locking caps seem to be especially problematic for all makes/models of vehicles, as you'll see in reviews on scAmazon.

P2420 is interesting. Toyota doesn't list the pair of codes as being related, and it only lists three known causes for that specific code, as you'll see in the FSM when you download it:
    • Bad wiring/harness, breach/fail somewhere between the ECM and pump module
    • Bad pump itself (and/or the vent valve is stuck)
    • Bad ECM (which is highly unlikely)
PDF for diagnostics attached. You've already been in the canister, I can't remember where the pump/vent valve is in relation to the canister itself, but I'd be checking its wiring, make sure a rodent didn't chew it up since they loooove chewing things in our trucks, especiall on/around the top of the gas tank, and looooove getting up under the intake manifold and nesting.

Oh and the following may be helpful for you., specifically pertaining to the 4.7L

You failed to tell us one of the most critical details about your truck: What cab type it has, and what drivetrain (2WD, 4WD) and that's going to be a problem if you expect help. There are a lot of differences in wiring/configuration depending on those two factors.
