Paint matching trim pieces

Has anyone successfully paint matched the dark silver trim piece that is above the glove box? I want to paint or plastidip the interior chrome and light silver pieces to match it.

 

Is it the same as a Platinum? If so I will try to find something tomorrow.

I want to know the same thing. I want to get all of the dash trim pieces in that darker silver/gray. As well as the shift knob trim and cup holder trim.

 

I’ve asked this question before and someone replied that the color was anthracite

 

Tufskinz is slowing coming out with more trim pieces for the tundra if you’d rather not paint your interior. They don’t have covers for the anthracite trim pieces yet tho. You might be better off vinyl wrapping them yourself too. They do have some things for the shifter area I believe.

 

I don’t really have anything to compare to, my Platinum is some sort of hydro dip or wrap. But I did find a nice grey in a BMW color. A52 Space Grey Met
If you go anywhere that sales paint ask to see the color variance deck on A52 and pick witch ever one suits you.

 

Might check out one of Krylon's Fusion textured or metallic paints. The Fusion line is apparently really good on plastics.

I used a wrap that is pretty close. I will have to go look for the color code. The sample shown below looks a little different due to the way it reflects the light on the curved sample, but it is actually even closer than it looks in the picture.

I’ve really wanted to do the same. Especially so my towers will match and I think it would look so much better. It’s almost like a dark brushed aluminum or something like that. May try that wrap

 

I asked a friend of mine who owns a graphics shop that does vehicle wraps for some advice on how to wrap such an intricate piece.

Just in case it helps anyone:

Clean the piece really really well with 91% isopropyl alcohol.

Use adhesive promoter. Primer 94 is what we use. It’s a 3M product.

After you lay the vinyl down and get it stuck, post heat is very important. You want to warm the vinyl up to nearly 200°. A hair dryer will not get hot enough. A heat gun should work fine.

Avoid over stretching the vinyl as you smooth it out.

You can buy the side stereo trim in black from Toyota. I’m debating it but heard it’s a pain to remove them

 

I don't think it's a pain to remove them as much as it is time consuming. Just need to figure out if the end result is worth the time spent.

 

I'm thinking of ordering from carid..they can color match to your vehicle..b&i dash...kinda pricey and I never ordered from them yet..but I might order the dash..that chrome blinds me a lot..

 

Get some vinyl. Easiest way to change the color and, if you do ever decide you don't like it, it's an easy fix.
Check out the guys at Metrorestyling. Great group that are super knowlesgeable.
I personally like Oracal brand.
